Don't touch my belly....rant.

As of right now, I can not stand for someone to touch my belly! I'm not rude when they do it, I just grin and accept it, because it usually only last a few seconds. I feel the reason is, because I can't feel the baby move yet. So, by them touching my belly, I feel like they're just rubbing my fat around. Very uncomfortable....but I suppose worse things could happen.

Re: Don't touch my belly....rant.

  • My sister asked on Thanksgiving if she could touch my belly even though she knew she wouldn't be able to feel anything yet. It was cute so I let her. My personal space bubble has gotten bigger in the last few weeks... I'm not sure how I am going to handle it when people just randomly touch me.

  • I think it depends who does it for me.  My aunt was the first one who has done it and it was last night.  She did it when she first saw me and saying goodbye.  I didn't have the heart to tell her that where she was patting was my intestines not the baby...

I would say if it is someone close to you, just let it go unless it is excessive.  They are just excited for you and "their" new baby.  If it is someone not as close, ask them not to do it.

That cracks me up....I usually just let it go anyway, I haven't had the same person do it more than once. Also, I think if I could feel him move, then I would be a little more comfortable with it.

  • I cant take it either! I am not sure that I am showing or if I am just fat (husband proudly says I am def showing) because most of the time people think I am just fat.  Saturday night my MIL (who has not seen me in two weeks) was all over my belly. Three or four times she rubbed it and talked to it. Then my brother-in-law did it too! I was super embarassed! They are rubbing my fat around!

Today I have been feeling nothing but flutters and kicks from the LO but I still cannot feel it outside of my body.  Even when I can though, I think that people need to understand that my belly is mine, not theirs. I just have NO idea how to make them understand.

  • Yeah, I would be ok with it if I had a cute firm baby bump, but my belly is squishy and only looks cute and firm.  As of right now it's just down right uncomfortable!

  • My FIL (who I find extreamly annoying lately due to some things that have happened in the past year) did it while I was 6 weeks ewe! This is defiantly the worst thing ever!

  • I don't like it either yet, not even my poor husband. When he grabs it I always say stop pushing on my fat, hopefully soon it will look more like a baby. But I always find that I am wearing things to hide it cause I just don't know how I feel about people touching it yet or even ever.

  • My BIL rubbed my belly when I was 16 weeks. It was super awkward and I kept telling him the baby was way to small to feel anything. :/ I don't understand why people think its ok to invade the personal space of a pregnant woman!

  • I never had a stranger rub my bump with DD but I still plan to, if anyone tries, to rub their belly if they just assume and jump in for a rub. I hate that people think it's ok to touch someone else, let alone in such a personal region!

  • I had my MIL rub my belly when I was 14 weeks, telling me to take care of her baby. We see her maybe 34x a year. It took all I had not to smack her hand and tell her I don't see her carrying the baby so don't refer to FI's and MY baby as hers. I will not even let my own mom rub my belly, and I see her everyday

MIL and I haven't been seeing eye to eye for almost two years now

My MIL did it a few weeks ago.  I told her the baby is a few inches below there actual but that she prolly didn't want to rub there ;)

I haven't had anyone else other than DH do it yet.  I'm not looking forward to this.  I'm pretty sure I personally have never rubbed a pregnant women's belly.  Is it too much to ask that no one does this to me?

Ugh...try 7 years. She is very rude and tacky with me, um...most of the time. I just pray that when I have a daughter-in-law that she never thinks this of me.

  • I hate when people do that. It hasn't happend yet but I'm not showing yet. (just past 15 weeks so maybe soon)

I do not look forward to that. Last two times I had that great hard bump and nothing else. This time I was heavier when I got pregnant so although I have a bit of a  stomach, it's all me so far. EDIT and even with the extra weight, I don't look pregnant yet. I hope to soon.

Oh me too. She started to like this when we told her we were expecting our first. She doesn't even acknowledge DS and I am sure the same will happen with this LO but I am lucky to have 2 MIL 's and my other is an angel.
  • I'm really worried about this! I can handle a friend or family member touching my stomach but I will freak if a stranger touches me.

  • MIL did that to me - we told his parents at 11wks, and after a hug goodbye, she rubbed around my navel (a good 5 inches above where baby was, and in an area where I have a good 2 inches of flubber)...

The only ones besides her have been DH and OB (no problems there)!!

I know several ladies who are just waiting until I'm big enough, but they know me well enough to ask first...I hope.  Pretty sure.

My baby sister is having her third in a few weeks, and at Thanksgiving, I asked and got permission to touch - I always ask, and only family and friends!!  Never strangers!  Seriously!

  • My students have already taken ownership of my belly. I told them they are just touching fat but they don't care.

  • I am so glad to read people's responses b/c I feel the same way!  I have been hating people touching me too... not because it would normally bother me, if I had a nice firm bump, but because I don't want them feeling my squishy fat!  haha
