Re: Dieting

  • not crazy, but I didn't eat pasta, bread, pizza, potatoes for 1 yr and lost 30lbs.  It sucked.  I gained 25 back, when I incorportated those foods back into my diet.

The only diet that let me eat foods I wanted was weight watchers.  I lost weight, but didn't stick with it.  I was starving all of the time (and a b!tch) so I stopped.

Maybe I will have some willpower after I am done being pregnant and can go on a serious diet.

  • I did one where all I ate was fruit and some chewable chocolate-flavored pills for a whole day, then regular food (and no pills) the next day.  Then repeat, alternating.  My friends tell me I was a PITA on my "no food" days!  Looking back....I have no idea why I thought that was ok!  Sounds totally dangerous to me now!

  • For me, the craziest diet I've ever been on was giving up soda for two years!  Now when I need to lose a few pounds I just give it up for a month or so to retrain myself out of drinking it every day.  Pepsi is my crack.  One drink and I think I need an IV of it.

I have a family of crazy yo-yo dieters who will try any fad out there and grew up watching them try them all, lose a bunch of weight, and then put more back on, so I think it saved me from doing it myself.

Wow, this is pretty much me exactly!  My mom, grandma, and aunt all seemed to own every gadget and gimic out there for losing weight and would swap them amongst themselves.  My mom even had lap band surgery, and I strongly disagreed with her doing so, since I felt she never really tried a healthy diet and exercise.

I gave up soda for 4 or 5 years and was a little crazy when I had done it because I was so adamant about not drinking soda.  Once when DH and I were dating, I accidentally took a drink of his Mt. Dew and held it in my mouth until I could get into the bathroom to spit it out (someone else was in there, so I had to wait).  I wanted to be able to say that I had no pop whatsoever in that time period, and I did.  And now, I'm back on it and drink wayyy too much Dr. Pepper.

I did lose some weight, but I wouldn't call it a diet.  I need to do it again though!

Its a sad testimony to how much I drink that I can give it up for a couple weeks and drop 5 pounds without doing anything else.   Its also laughable how bloated I am when I'm drinking it every day and how much thinner I look without it.  Too bad I'm hooked.  Most the time I manage to keep it to only weekends now.

  • I love my Pepsi! Lately though it doesn't taste as crisp though. Maybe it's just a mental thing .. But I haven't been buying it so its all good.

Soda always makes me feel bloated and I burp a lot. I wish I could lose 5 lbs from not drinking it!

  • What's the craziest diet you've ever tried? Full disclosure- Bulimia in high school
Did it work? For weight loss, yes.
Would you do it again? Absolutely not. I had severe body issues in high school. I am still working through them at nearly 30 but I love myself enough to not go there again. When I had my first m/c, I stopped taking care of myself and hardly ate. MH pulled me out of it.

Now I try to avoid dieting and just try eat like a normal person and work out. I'm holding onto 10 lbs that I hate but MH re-inforces his love regardless of my waist measurement.

  • The craziest thing I ever did was not eat and take laxatives in college. Really, I was trying to make myself sick so that I could go home (I know, not smart, but I was 17 and dumb).  No one would listen to me that I was miserable, and so I figured I could not eat and get sick and they'd have to listen. It didn't really work at all though, I was just crazy hungry, and after about a month I gave up and had some pizza. No, I would not ever do it again, and it didn't even make me lose much weight because I had messed up my metabolism so badly.
  • My post disappeared. :( In 6th grade, my friend and I made up "The American Flag Diet" where we could only eat foods that were red, white, and blue. I don't know what we were thinking!
