Parenting after a Loss

WWYD?

So the last 2 years we have done Xmas caroling at some local nursing homes- We take our team of horses out for a couple of hours and go around town, a couple of the homes we go inside and sing, its a lot of fun and people really enjoy seeing the horses.  We are scheduled to go again this year and I plan on taking DS, but I'm a little worried about exposing him to germs in the nursing homes, I'm probably being paranoid, thoughts?

It also depends on the temperature outside, if its really cold we would follow in the car, which stinks, I have a snowsuit for him but I'm curious if any of you keep LO's outside in the winter, even bundled up, if there is a temp that you wouldn't keep them out for a couple of hours?  I'm thinking it through and feeling like it seems like a lot of trouble, LO comes first, but this is such a wonderful thing I hate to give it up if I'm just being super paranoid.

Re: WWYD?

  • The nursing homes are probably more worried about the kids bringing them germs than the risk of your child getting germs from them.

My MOMs group took our kids to a local nursing home for a Halloween "trick or treating" event we set up with the nursing home and no one came back sick.  I wasn't really worried about it either.   The nursing home was very clean.

As far as the weather is concerned.  I would bundle him up as much as possible.  If it is too cold, I would limit his time out.  I'm in Southeast Texas so we don't normally have too much cold weather.  :)

  • Yeah he won't be out of my arms the whole time, I'm just super paranoid about the flu. It just seems like places like that there is always something going around. I'm hoping it will be warm enough, he will likely be in a sling in a snowsuit attached to me the whole time, snuggled in blankets as well but yeah if its really cold or windy we won't go with the horses. i'm in Maine so you never know... might be shorts weather like it was today (50's) or .. not. Plus I'm a sissy about the cold...
