I am 26 weeks pregnant and I have a 2 1/2 year old. I was looking at one of those double strollers. I still place my 2 1/2 year old in the cart or a stroller, I let her out here and there, but I like to keep her in there, because when I do let her out, I have to keep a close eye on her and it is hard to look around in the store. My husband stated when the new baby comes she can just stay by my side and she wouldn't need to go in a stroller. Do you think a 3 year old is too old to be placed in a stroller?

This is what we got. We got it at BBB, and price matched. We had the Chicco key fit double stroller, which was ok because we could put the car seat in it, but it was impossible for me to push around and turn, etc. This Britax side by side is a dream!!! I can't say anything good about a sit and stand, because I wanted to try it out, but DH wanted a double stroller. I would test both out, but for the money, the Britax is great. Turns great and folds down by pushing a button and pulling up and that's it. Really simple. I guess it depends on the three yo, but DD1 is 2 yrs 8 mo, and when we are in public, she usually goes along with the program, but has her moments when she wants out. I just give her a snack to keep her quiet, because I'm too scared she'll wander off ...
I never used a stroller after the age of 2, and probably would have used one less but DH liked it. I used a tether for DS and wore him when I could (still would if DH would let me, he say's he'll break my back LOL).
I like what a PP poster said, can you wear LO when your 3YO needs to be in stroller.
I think it really depends on the kid. I stopped using the double stroller when my oldest was 2 since we had no need for it. My friend has two kids who are now 2 and 4.5 and uses her double stroller all the time.
I would wait to see how your child is when your new baby comes then buy it if/when you find you actually need it. Your child may still have use for the stroller now but a lot will change with time.
