Re: How many are still working?

  • With my first pg I worked right up until the day before my due date. I delivered a week late so I still got a week between stopping work and having LO, and FWIW I was pretty bored that week!

All I can say is don't push yourself too hard, keep remembering that you will be done soon! Try to focus on the things you like about work. Good luck and hang in there!

(today is my last day of work and my EDD is in 1 week - DH convinced me to take off a little earlier this time because I was stressing about all the pre-Christmas stuff I wanted to get done)

  • I am. I still have about 9 days until my DD. I am just showing up to work, and taking it one day at a time. I know-people are annoying, but each day is a day closer.

  • I am still working full time.  Plus, my commute is around 45 minutes each way.  I just talked to my boss about working from home though because I am very nervous about going into labor at the office and then having to get back to my neighborhood where my hospital is located.  My DH works much closer to our house, so he would have to drive all the way here to get me and then all the way back to the hospital, about 1.5 hours total.  Not ideal.  I am only 37 weeks today, but baby is head down and engaged and things are progressing.  I had some contractions this weekend.  BH, but still more action that I've seen up until this point.  Luckily, my boss agreed and doesn't want me going into labor at work any more than I do.  Do you have the ability to work from home at all?  If so, I would talk to your boss about it.
  • I'm a week behind you (37 weeks today), but I'm in the same boat.  The little stuff that shouldn't get to me has been getting under my skin, and really bugging me.  Last night, I was thinking about all the stuff that's been bugging me lately and not wanting to come in today, and just cried.

But, at the same time, I get the 12 weeks allowed under FMLA and if I stop working now, it means that I'll have less time at home with our LO after she's born.  I don't want that either.

I keep crossing my fingers that she'll be a little early and I can be off sooner.

  • I'm still working. I really couldn't imagine not working. I think I would get really bored waiting for baby. I'm glad to have something to keep me busy.

Sure people are annoying and sometimes I don't feel great. But it's one day at a time. 8 hours at a time. I can put up with anything for 8 hours. Just keep a light at the end of the tunnel.

  • I am working up until my due date. I did with my first and she was born 3 days late. I'm a hairdresser so it's my busy time. I have appointments scheduled until the 12. But I'm so ready to be done
  • I know..but atleast I would be in my own home,I'd rather be bored there, then having to get up(after not sleeping at night) get ready and work all day and talk to people ewww

  • Still working 12 hours a week, 4 days a week, on my feet most of the day. People aren't really bothering me anymore, I've been "huge" for weeks now, and getting the "omg she's going to go into labor RIGHT HERE ANY MINUTE" side eyes from people for weeks. It's getting harder to snap my mouth shut when someone says something rude (like when a guy yelled across the hospital cafeteria "DANG GIRL YOU'RE HUUUUGE") but eh. I figure if it comes to the point where I have word vomit at someone who says something insensitive, they deserve it, and I can blame it on hormones. ;)

There are some people who express admiration that I'm still working as much as I am, and that always makes me stand a little straighter, like I'm doing something heroic (which I'm not - I just know I'd be bored as sh*t at home for 2 weeks, plus I'm hoping all the walking I do at work will coax little dude out of there!). Just take it one day at a time, almost there!

  • I am still working and will do so until this baby decides to make her appearance. I work in a school in a position where I am able to sit much of the work day while working with students, so that has been helpful. I have so much paperwork to get done before this baby comes, that that has kept me SUPER busy at work (even staying late most days) and I honestly don't get much of a moment to feel tired until I get home.

I got a bonus day off today due to a weather cancellation, so I am trying to catch up on all my housework. I honestly feel more tired/sore cleaning my house right now than I do while at work... TB isn't helping me in the motivation department either. LOL

  • 39 weeks and still working :( I also have an hour commute each way and have to get my 4 year old dropped off in the mornings, so it can be very difficult. I would love to take off early, but I know that I will be happier having that extra time after baby is here. At this point, I am just trying to stay positive and remember that my baby will be here and I will be on leave any day now.
  • I'm over 37 weeks and still working. I have not missed a single day of work since maybe last January or maybe last year. I have 12 weeks FMLA but only 9 of that will be paid including my health ins. premiums so the longer I can work, the longer I can spend time with the baby but I am so freaking ready to be done today. I am exhausted. This is the longest I have ever worked pregnant.  My job does involve sitting most of the day but sometimes I have to deal with people and stressful situations. I've been trying to deflect it as much as I can and also close & lock my door when I just need to be left alone.  I keep going back and forth about when I want to stop working and I still have no answers.

  • I am still teaching. This will probably be my last week, as I'd like some time at home, to myself before baby girl arrives. (Or, if she arrives early, that's cool, too, because I'm pretty uncomfortable, ha.)

  • :::raises hand:::::

yup, i'm still here working 40hrs a week.  I plan to work right up until lil missy makes her appearance.  I want to maximize my time with her, since i'll probably only be able to afford 10 weeks leave.  I just take it a day at a time.

  • I am still working 8-5 M-F at 37w4d. It isn't easy. My boss generally lets me leave at 3 or 4 on really bad days, but I pretty much just keep to myself. Lots of NPR, Dave Ramsey and other news streaming on my computer all day to keep my mind occupied. Also, I have gotten a little snarky with people who keep asking me if I am still pregnant, when is he coming, etc. I think that helps - I hate to be a b!tch but I just can't take it anymore.

  • I'm still working... 10 more days to go!  The 14th will be my last day.  I'll be 38.5 weeks then so I think I'll be ready to stop at that point.  Even though I don't really look forward to going in each day, at this point I know it helps make the time go by faster!

  • Still working here too! I run the legal department for a collection agency so people bugging me is sort of par-for-the-course but I've found that using my voicemail to screen calls (not always allowed at some jobs) and re-introducing caffeine really helped. That and just not dwelling on everyone else's drama. I am a duck (a rather large, waddling, bags-under-my-eyes but still cute duck) and their drama just flows off my back like water =)

  • I was planning on working today and tomorrow, but started early labor this weekend. I haven't had a good nights sleep in almost a week, so I decided to call it quits. I had almost 2 weeks of vacation time saved up on top of my maternity leave. It sucks to feel like I am "wasting" it because I am not spending it with the new baby, but it is giving me a chance to spend some quality time with DS. I am trying really hard not to focus on the early labor symptoms and praying something kicks into gear soon.

  • I am still working!  39 weeks, 3 days.  Woot woot.  I sat around at home on Saturday "to rest" because I "need my rest" according to everyone and I almost went out of my mind.  I don't know what I would do all day if I was out of work.  LO could wait another 1.5 weeks before showing up!  That being said, I thought I was going to strangle my boss.  I keep deep breathing to calm myself down - good practice for labor:)

  • I'm due 12/26. I work in a pre-school and we go on Christmas break 12/21. I'm planning on working up until then. It will give me a few days off before I'm due.
  • WHY in the WORLD are people bothering you??? That is LAME!

I worked with DD until the day before I went into labor. I would have gone in the day I did go into labor, but the giant snowstorm made roads too dangerous to go anywhere unless you really had to. Most of my patients were going to cancel, but for the sake of the one who probably was going to make it in, and the chance to tie up loose ends with an empty schedule, I was getting dressed for work. My H didn't want me to go. Finally my boss told me I was crazy, stay home.

I unexpectedly became a SAHM after she was born, figuring I'd go back into the workforce when the timing was right... WELL, I guess that timing is now, because I just accepted a part-time job. Starting this week. I'll take time off after DS is born, then go back in 6 weeks or so. It feels right to ME, the opportunity is here NOW, so guess what, I'm taking it.

I don't care what anyone says. I'm pregnant. I'm not incapable of performing my job.

ETA: Oh, just re-read your OP, you were feeling annoyed by others-- not people bugging you about working. Sorry!

  • Last time I worked full time until the day before I went into labor.  I feel like I was doing much better then, than now.  I feel super stretched and am walking just very slow everywhere.  I actually hope to keep working for the next two weeks until school is out (teacher here).

  • still working at 36 weeks carrying twins. I am very crabby but am still showing up and getting stuff done. I think I am giveing out "don't F with me" vibes Anyone who asks me about when are the babies coming gets the response, "when they are ready" which is much nicer than what I'd like to say ("how the F should I know").
  • I am still working, too, and everyone is also getting on my nerves. People are always asking me how I am feeling and I really want to say "I feel like *** and I am just here so that I have more time to spend with the baby when she comes", but I just grit my teeth and say "Fine". I worked right up until the day I went into labor with LO#1, but I feel like this time is so much harder mentally. My boss is annoying as hell and is trying to get me to complete these stupid projects before I leave and send me to a different area so that it will be "easier" for me, when I clearly told him that I want to stay right where I am. On top of that, I work in a hospital and he was also saying that when I go into labor him and my coworkers can just send me down to maternity so I could have the baby. I felt like saying, "F u, I am going home to labor in peace until my contractions are short enough apart that I will be able to be admitted". I love how ppl think they know what is best for you!!! I am just taking it one day at a time. Hang in there!
  • I'm due 12-18 and am still working right up until our little one makes her appearance. I know what you mean about people starting to annoy you. I'm trying not to let everything stress me out but it's eaiser said then done. To add insult to injury I have a 45 minute commute one way everyday. My boss luckily has been pretty understanding and is letting me work at one of our offices that is closer to my home or from home just incase I would go into labor. But I'm getting tired of all the comments about how huge I look and comments about me going into labor at work.
