Holiday baking

What is the one thing you *have* to bake or make every year? For me, probably caramels. They are a pain in the butt to wrap, but taste so good!! I also usually make cutout cookies, because everyone loves them (even though I think they are gross :).

Re: Holiday baking

  • My sister and I make Oreo balls and peanut butter balls. I also like to make red velvet cupcakes. DH makes good fudge as well.

  • I have to make peppermint bark for DH every year. He loves it. He starts bugging me in November to see when I'm going to make it.
  • I will be making Cranberry Apple Walnut Bread, Pumpkin Bread, and Zucchini Bread in mini loaf pans to give as gifts to the neighbors and co-workers. I am also making some assorted cookies-hello dollies, and some sort of oreo marshmallow bars.

    We make a Christmas Lobster sugar cookie.nbsp; It started as a joke because I had found a lobstershaped cookie cutter and bought it why wouldn't you buy something that awesome? and my first chance to use it was while baking Christmas cookies that year.nbsp; We've made a lobster every year since and he always gets nicely decorated and displayed on our Christmas cookie tray.
    We get a lot of requests for our pomegranatenbsp;clusters and our rum balls, so we usually make those every year too.nbsp;

    Pomegranate clusters? How do you make those? They sound delicious.

  • Oh, Jesus. Too much. White chocolate chip cookies for my dad and coworkers, white chocolate covered pretzels for my sister, fudge for my mom, and usually a pumpkin cheesecake for me ... I mean my coworkers! Dammit. I love a good cheesecake.

    I have a lobster shaped cookie cutter too!

    I bake a ton.  I have 4 bake days. Plus I bake on my own. My SIL and MIL and I bake dutch letters, Oreo truffles, thumbprints, Russian tea cakes, and spritz.  I make gingerbread houses, caramels, star of Bethlehems and sugar cookies with my mom.  With my coworker we make tarts and shortbread.  I like to make rum balls and cheesecake truffles.

  • I usually make cranberry almond bark and pretzel wreaths (tiny pretzel twists dipped in chocolate almond bark w/ sprinkles and cooled in the shape of a wreath).  the last couple years I made oreo truffles.  Every  year we do Christmas Candy with my aunt, mom, and grandma but she's in Florida this year so I don't know if we're doing it.
