Sleeping A LOT ?

DS never sleeps past 7am, ever. He'll usually be up then and take a nap around 9 or so until 11. Today he would not wake up until 1 pm! I tried to get him up but he just kept falling asleep on me. He didn't have a fever or seemed sick. He went to bed last night at 7:00pm. The night before though he was kept up(by MIL) until almost 11pm.
Should I be worried or do you think it could just be a growth spurt or maybe he's catching up on his sleep that he missed the night before?
It sucks because I should just be thankful he slept in but I can't help but be a little worried since he has never slept that late or even close to that late before.

Re: Sleeping A LOT ?

  • So he slept from 7-1? Or did he woke up regular but then took a super long nap?

Sleeping til 1 pm is a little crazy, but if he seems fine otherwise I guess I'd just be thankful.  Maybe a random combining of a growth spurt and a late night resulted in that? I'd definitely just keep a close eye on him.  18 hours straight is crazy!

  • Well, I got him up at 7 and brought him into the living room. He just laid by me and was super fussy. So I put him in his chair and he fell back asleep then we got him up again and he wouldn't get up and then we put him back into his crib because it was almost naptime but he wasn't up for more than 15 minutes. He's up now and is eating a little but he really just wants to drink his milk.
If he's not better by tomorrow we will definitely be going straight to the Drs.
  • Maybe he is coming down with something? I would say if he isn't acting like his normal self tomorrow I would take him to the pedi. That is a long time to sleep!

Yep, if it's still like this tomorrow I will definitely be taking him. Why does he always get sick on Sundays? He's just laying here about to fall asleep again. I hate itSad
  • Have you given him any OTC meds lately? Is he urinating normal? DD had a reaction to zyrtec that was almost identical to what you are describing but also came with retaining urine.

    Hmm...not anything new, just ibuprofen.

We ended up taking him to urgent care. He just finished meds for an ear infection and they said one of his ears is still infected and his throat is irritated. Probably something viral along with the ear infection. Gave us some new antibiotics to help the infection and said to just keep an eye on him. My poor babySad

  • Poor guy. I hope he feels better soon.

    Poor guy!

My ds, who normally doesn't even act like he's sick when he's got a fever, etc., has been sick twice where he just sleeps all day long.  It's so freaky, and he's older, so I can imagine it would be worrisome in a young one.  Hopefully it'll just run it's course and he'll be back to normal soon!

That's what got me so scared is he was just laying there. Like usually he's fussy or will even still play and eat when he's sick. He's never been like that before. I hated it. I just wish they could tell us what's wrong.

    Thanks ladies! Smile
