Build a bear

Has anyone done the Build-a-Bear workshop for the new baby?  I would like to do one with the heartbeat sound--is it worth doing it (will it last?) and if so how do I need to record the heartbeat in order to transfer it?

My next appointment is December 14 so we would record then.

    I know that you can order it inline and call a number to record someone's voice (we are having DHs grandma do this for DD) then they ship the bear to you but I don't know how easily that would be done with a heart beat.

    We are doing this too! I am not sure how well it works though.

    I've been to build a bear many a time with dd but we haven't done one with sound. I'm wondering though if you can go in and purchase the sound box and take it with you to your next appt to capture the hb? Then take it back to build your bear?

    Yes, we want to put the BABY's HB in the bear, not mine.  As a keepsake.  Because to us it's so amazing and special. 

    I think we'll stop by the store at some point and get the sound box.  Just not sure that can happen before the next appointment, so it might have to wait until January.

    I plan on doing this as well. My little brother use to work there for many years. You can go in and purchase the little sound box thingy and take it to your next appointment to record the heartbeat. After which you would want to take it back to Build-a-Bear and stuff it in your bear. They last a good while. My son has gotten several bears from there with sound one of the 2 is still working.  In talking with the u/s tech. she said that people do it all the time for many reasons and one was they let the newborn listen to it while sleeping, it helps to sooth them.

    Sounds like a lovely idea... what a great keepsake.

    As far as the bear itself goes, I have not had the greatest experience with Build-a-Bear... maybe it'd fare better as a keepsake than a toy. My son (who is now 6) has had several build-a-bears and they don't last... they are not soft and cuddly and the seams come apart in the back where you put the stuffing in. It's probably one of the few stuffed animals he never plays with and it was much more expensive than other much more loved toys.

    If you get it to keep it on a shelf and don't give it to your child for every day play, maybe it'd last longer?

    That's the plan, more for me than the baby.  A keepsake, not a toy.  So that when s/he goes off to college Mommy has something to cry over.   (j/k...sort of )

    aww that is a really cute idea, just have the doc give you a sec to get your phone out when you are about to hear the hearbeat and go to the voice recorder on your phone. as quiet as most dr offices are you should be able to get pretty good quality then once you go into build a bear maybe ask them to step into like the back room so you can record the heartbeat off of your phone onto the little heart without to much background noise, hope it all works out:)
