so we tried today - first nap without soother...
he cried for an hour and a half before i gave in!!! i feel dumb for giving in but he was SO tired and so upset. the second i gave it to him he melted and fell asleep.
any research i've done says to get rid of it before they're 1 or anyone else has said they waited unitl 2 or 2.5 so they could reason with them and tell them it's time or send them to the fairy or whatever...
we might wait until after baby comes.
now....do i start getting rid of the bottle!? oh geeze.....
Re: Update....
I would do a slow transition off the bottle. Offer a few drinks in sippy cups or my DD has been on a big girl cup since 15 so it's definitely do-able. We offer sippy's only in the car (and that's rare). It helps that I have an older DD so younger one wants to be like big sis.
Paci-we tried cutting the nipple of the paci (hiding all others saying they are missing) a little bit every few days until she didn't want it anymore. We weaned DD1 right before the age of 2 when DD2 was going to join us. At this age, we could also explain the differences btwn babies and big girls so that was a big help. Also, DD2 didn't really take to the paci and that was a huge plus.
I have also read other parents stuff the paci in build a bear w/ their LO. You may be more successful as he gets gets older.
One more-we brought DD1 to a pedi dentist and she reinforced no more paci's or sippys and DD listened to the dentist said so.
