Crib or pack n play

Since I saw that you can buy a 3' mattress to go in the pack n plays, I have been looking into using a pack n play instead of a crib. We will be moving this month from a 2bdr to a small 1bdr to save money to buy a house in a year (baby will be around 9 months). Since we will be limited on space I am thinking a pack n play will be better than a crib, since I can move it around easier, say I have to place it in front of our closet door.

My mom disagrees and think we should get a crib. This is not a price issue this is a space issue. What do you think would be best and what are some pros and cons to either.

A Pack and Play is fine to start off with, but eventually LO will need a crib. They sell mini cribs if it's a space issue. I believe the pack and plays go up to a certain weight limit as well.

we currently live in a small cottage and plan on using a pnp for the first few weeks, but we will be getting a mini crib for LO room. But for your situation in only having a 1br for a few months, I would just go with the pnp. It's not like its a permanent situation. Once you get a house you'll have plenty of space for even a full size crib.

Ya I agree with PP. a PnP for the first few months makes sense. Once you have ore space you can get the crib!

Space is also an issue with us. We are expecting baby #5 and will be using a pnp to start out with. We will probably move to a bigger place when our lease is up next September, but until then baby will have to sleep in a pnp.

My brother and his wife lived in pretty tiny apartments the first few years my nephew was alive so he only slept in a PnP until he was around 3. Yes, they'll admit it's a bit gauche, but it worked for them.

The bassinet portion of the Pack n Play can be used up to 15lbs. Once a baby weighs 15lbs you can take bassinet part down and have the baby sleep in the bottom part.

I am a social worker for one of the Health Departments in Maryland, and we provide clients with pack and plays if they are unable to afford a crib. A pack n play is perfectly safe to use.

My son is 6 months and isn't close to outweighing the top of the PNP right now. I plan on keeping him in it until he hits that weight limit, then transitioning him to a crib. I don't see where you'd have an issue using a PnP for a few months. We obviously have been. and like PP mentioned, you can move LO to the bottom when s/he outgrows the top portion.
