DD is 4 months old. My mom got me 2 exersausers off Freecycle. They are huge and are wrapped in plastic. I'm going to unwrap and clean them off this weekend. I'm hoping they are in good condition. I plan to keep one at our house and one at the DCP house.
But I'm wondering a few things . . .
If I have an exersauser, do I "need" a jumper? I mean, can the baby jump in an exersauser or would it be fun to have both?
What age can they start usung an exersauser and jumper?
Any good recomendations for a jumper? (preferably one that isn;t to much $$$.) I'm also not sure if I like the ones that hang in the door.
TIA

At 20-week anatomy scan found IUGR (Intrauterine Growth Restriction), and very low Amniotic Fluid. Now, I'm High Risk and have weekly ultrasounds to monitor fluid and growth. If baby runs out of room or is too growth restricted, they will deliver ASAP. My current goal is to make it to 28 weeks!
Re: Exersausers & Jumpers Oh My!
I definitely don't think you need both an exersaucer and a jumper but I will say that DS has liked both at different ages (we have a jumper at home - see below link; and my parents and daycare have a stationary (i.e., non jumping) excersaucer). DS is 8 months old now and has only really got into the jumping over the past couple of months but, boy, does he love it. It's pretty hilarious to watch him. Up to that point, the one we have at home was too tall for him so he would hang in it (i.e., legs dangled) and just play with the toys. He seemed to like it okay but I would not say he loved it. The ones that DC and my parents have were shorter (I think made by Baby Einstein) and he could "stand" in those at a much younger age so they were better for him from about 3 mos - 6 months. He likes those versions also - even still at 8 months.
Anyway, here's what we have. I like it now, but thought it was just so so until he was old enough to start jumping in it.

DD never really loved her jumper. She seemed more analytical and hands on, so having the exersaucer activities would have been a better choice for us in retrospect. You don't need both, but if your son is very physical and loves to bounce maybe you can look for a great deal on a used one. I don't think it's a necessity.
You can put them in the exersaucer when they have good trunk and neck control, about 4 months or so.
My DD was the same way, didn't love the jumper but loved the rainforest jumperoo that my MIL got as a hand me down from a grandma friend of hers. They clean up pretty easily so it's not a big deal to use second or third hand in most cases.
NEW PEANUT DUE 7.2017
DS loved his jumper... for about 2 months. I will say, during those two months, it was a life saver. So nice to have a safe place to put him where he would be entertained. I moved it into the kitchen to make dinner, set him up on the bathroom while I showered. It was awesome. We had the FP Rain Forest Jumper and it wasn't too pricey (under $100 for sure).
However, it is totally something I would have been ok with buying/borrowing second hand. The surfaces can be wiped clean and the fabric is all washable. We only used it for such a short period of time, almost seems like a waste. We have since lent it out to three other families.
My LO will be 6 months old on 12/9. We bought this jumper: https://www.diapers.com/p/baby-einstein-musical-motion-activity-jumper-92933?site=CA&utm_source=cse&utm_medium=cpc_D&utm_term=KDZ-086&utm_campaign=Google&CAWELAID=1338678692&utm_content=pla&cagpspn=pla&ci_kw={keyword} right before Thanksgiving and he LOVES it! He goes nuts in it!
I would never have bought both, but we received them as gifts and I'm soooo glad we have both.
They are really completely different... one is more mentally stimulating (we have the Evenflo Mega Splash), and the jumperoo is SO much fun for our baby and it's great to help him burn off some energy since he's not walking yet.
Our baby gets bored in the 'saucer after 5-10 minutes, but he'll jump blissfully in the jumperoo indefinitely (I don't let him stay in it for longer than 20-25 minutes at a time because I've read that too much jumperoo time can be hard on baby joints and bones). It's so great to have more than one "station" so he never gets bored if I have 30+ minutes' worth of work I need to get done!
