CVS after negative MaterniT21

Would you do the CVS if you got a negative on the MaterniT21 test?

I got my results and not sure if I wait for the 20 week scan now or if we should consider more testing.

Edit: I also did the Counsyl genetic testing and everything was normal there too

Multiple ectopics, 2 failed IVF's
IVF #1: Did not get to ET, embies all failed PGD (major chromosomal defects)
IVF #2: We have 2 chromosomally perfect embies as a result of PGD (Boy/Girl) 1 failed the thaw (Girl) Transferred 1, yet ended as a c/p
Thought it was the end of our TTC Journey 6/20/2012
SHOCK BFP 9/28/2012: IT'S A BOY! and everything is normal !!!!!!

Little A born 38w 2d on 05/23/13 and is a true miracle for this IF Vet!

Re: CVS after negative MaterniT21

  • No. Why risk miscarrying a healthy baby? I did an MT21 and refused amnio/CVS because I got negative results.

  • Unless your MaterniT21 showed positive, I would not do a CVS. I only did CVS bc MaterniT21 doesn't work for twins.

  • No way. Maternit21 is very accurate so there is no reason to risk it. Personally I wouldn't do any invasive testing unless I had awful screening results.
TTC since Dec. 2010. Me: 37, DH: 38...unexplained RPL

  • Thanks Ladies. Maybe it was a stupid question but with my history I just want to cover all bases

  • I think you're good! Enjoy the rest of your pregnancy and look forward to a beautiful, healthy baby : ) Congrats!
Mom to Hope 2004 Blessed with #2 due to arrive 11/02/12
  • NOT a stupid question, I didn't even think I would have a choice about invasive tests due to my age. Thanks for the good info in this thread.

  • I wouldn't, although my order of preference for the tests was:

    NT scan & MaterniT21

    Amnio

    CVS

I know CVS has to be done earlier than amnio, but I really didn't want to do the CVS.  I would rather go for the amnio (did it with No.1, who was pre-MaterniT21, and it was no biggie, IMHO).  But since my NT scan was good, MT21 test results were good, and the anatomy scan showed everything was growing normally, I decided not to bother with anything else.

Son #1 is already 2! Not too much longer until Son No.2 arrives! Lilypie Maternity tickers
  • Ladies, I had the same question. MaterniT21 only tests for the three most common trisomies. What about the other trisomies? What about neural tube defects? Will the later scan pick up markers for other trisomies or neural tube defects? Would it be worth doing both the NT scan and the MaterniT21 test ir skip the NT scan? Thanks.
