Is anyone out there continuing with their running program while pregnant? I have clearance from my doc to continue to do anything I have been doing and as long as I listen to my body he gave me the green light. I run maybe 3 times per week and do a whole lot of spinning, weight lifting, more spinning, rowing etc. I only run about 2 miles each session and definitely notice myself slowing down. I am only 13 weeks--has anyone run well into their second or third trimester? I dont want to harm the baby but maintaining a moderate level of physical activity is important to me.
Also, can anyone recommend a good sports bra? My ta-ta's are poising to take over the world! Help me!
Re: Running during pregnancy----and sports bras!
I was running until about my eighth month with DS and spinning until the week I gave birth. This pregnancy, I'm still running, but she's definitely sitting lower than DS, so I've slowed down considerably. I plan to continue swimming and spinning for as long as my body will let me.
As for bras.. I have found that Moving Comfort's "Fiona" is the most comfortable right now, and I'm seriously up to a DDD right now. ugh.
I am 37 weeks and have been running (although less frequently and shorter distances due to having to pee all the time), spinning, swimming, lifting, elliptical etc. every day. I did the same with my son and was SO glad that I did. Exercise is good for your baby - enjoy!
Best of luck.
I ran up until the day I was induced - including that morning! I was certainly much slower by the end, but I do think it helped me with my recovery. I bounced right back after the baby was born and was walking 3 miles a day 4 days after I gave birth.
Just listen to your body and do what you're capable of without pushing yourself. If you feel funny, or something doesn't feel right, back off.
As for bras, I used the Moving Comfort Fiona before pregnancy, during pregnancy, and after pregnancy. It's pricey, but it's one of my favorites.
I might as well be part of the itty bitty... well.. you know. So I can't help you with the bras.
I ran up until 24 weeks. I ran a half marathon at 22 weeks. Shortly after 24 weeks I injured something in my hip, so I think I might be resorting to the elliptical and walking from here on out, but we will see. Just listen to your body and you'll be fine.

Hi
I am "well endowed" in the breat area and love love running... i am 19 weeks now and still run (not far, not fast, more of a jogwalk lol) but since I started running years ago, i SWEAR by moving comfort sports bras.
https://www.movingcomfort.com/
They are kind of expensive but WORTH IT. I am a 36DD and the girls don't go anywhere. They come in cute colors too
Good luck, please try them, I am in the Army and I try to get everyone to try them out.
I also ran right up until I delivered. I ran 7, 6, and 5 miles the three days before I went into labor. At the beginning of the second tri, I definitely had to slow down, cut back for exhaustion, and take more pee breaks, but I ramped things right back up.
I agree about the Moving Comfort Fiona bra. However-- I'm now a 36F-- and those bras aren't going to fit me anymore, so I'm looking into the Shock Absorber.
I am 23 weeks, and have run 3 half marathons during this pregnancy (the last one was Sunday). I also do bootcamp 3 times a week, and plan to keep going as long as I am still feeling good. I am doing less than I was before I was pregnant, and everything is fine, and I feel great.
I have been wearing the moving comfort fiona sports bra. It was recommended to me, because it also works as a nursing bra once the baby is born. I hope this helps!
I'm still running 5 to 6 days a week (3 to 8 miles, depending on day) and am hoping to run throughout the whole pregnancy
This is my first pregnancy, so I'm taking it as it comes! Like everyone has said, listen to your body. I ran marathons before pregnancy but decided to put them on hold until baby is here. I hate to pay the entry fee if I can't shoot for a personal record
As for bras, I don't have a specific bra recommendation but I am wearing my pre-pregnancy sports bras - though now I wear two! The bouncing hurts
I ran till I was about 35 weeks, then I kept getting crampy if I did more than a mile. I did crossfit up till about 38 weeks. I ran a marathon 8 weeks pregnant and was going to do another one at 22 but it was too hot (Boston Marathon), but I did get up to 20 miles when I was 19 weeks.
Your body will let you know when to back off. The last time I did a crossfit class before I delivered I felt like crap the rest of the day, so I knew I was done till after LO arrived.
For me I felt best if I just kept on working out and didn't sit on my butt too much... I just felt like if I just could keep myself going I wouldn't lose my motivation. It worked! I pretty much was all belly for my pregnancy, little guy came out healthy and even overstayed his welcome a bit as I had to be induced at 41 weeks!
And at 11 weeks postpartum I was able to run a half marathon, started back running and doing crossfit at 6 weeks.
I'm trying to keep up with my running program, or jogging program as I have slowed down a bunch already. For me, running 1-6 miles a few days a week is an accomplishment. I have done longer races (marathons. 1/2s) but that was a long time ago so no chance of that happening until after baby.
I'm so excited to find a Fiona! I have always been a 2 sport bra wearer with any running. I hope it works for me!
My two girls Flower and Ayla Faye
I just stopped running about 3 weeks ago. I ran a marathon at 6 weeks pregnant and since it was my second spring marathon decided to take a break from the long distance during my pregnancy and let my muscles recover for Boston in Spring 2013. I ran pretty normal up to about 15 weeks and then only ran 3-5 miles up to weeks 27-28. Now I am solely doing elliptical and cycling classes. I plan on doing this until it no longer feels good.
Listen to your body. I MISS running like nobody's business but the havoc it was wreaking on my back as a result made it just not worth it!
I with everyone else on the bra's as well!
GL!
I got my bra from Title 9 I think.. it's the bronte? In a 34E, which is hard to find. Separate cups for the first time in my life! Adjustable straps.. still a little bit of space in it since I'm actually a DD, but I bought the bra about 10 weeks ago not knowing how much bigger they were going to get. I think the extra space will be nice when the milk is here... but even now, the bra still is so supportive that I never think about it on my runs. It's just wonderful.
I still run about 2 mi, whenever I can. It's probably about 5x/week. I use Newton Gravity sneakers, which are expensive but worth it. They are no good for walking around in as a daily shoe, either, because of the sole design. I think they're ugly too, but I don't care!! They are the reason I can still go jogging! I was totally unable to keep running in my old sneakers. I am a big-time heel-striker, but that habit is going to take a lot of work and time to break. Right now, I need to reduce the shock through my heels by having shoes that put the weight more quickly on my forefoot. They are a dream come true. If you're intrigued by the barefoot running movement but aren't ready for the minimalist shoe, and don't think you're really going to change your running style, you've got to go try this shoe on in a store.
I also use the mother-to-be maternity brace, whether running or not. Couldn't run without it, couldn't get through a day comfortably without it.
And, now that long pants are in season, it's not an issue. But if you're running on treadmills in shorts, try some chub-rub for those pregnant thighs-- chamois butt'r works well for me.
Born Fit has a great maternity spinning short (because I saw your other post but it was not attire related) as well as running short, by the way.
I'm still running and it's been great! I've been having a bit more SI joint pain on the right side as of last week so I cut down to running 4 days a week and then doing yoga on other days. Maternity running support belts are awesome for belly support when running! It helps my hip out a ton.
Did you work out quite a bit prior to getting pregnant? The thing I've heard is to stick to what you did pre-pregnancy. My pace is slowing down gradually (some days are worse than others), but it just feels good to get out and run!
I don't have any specific brand recommendations. I just had to buy a new one at JCP today... need more support these days
