My LO is almost 3 months and we struggle a lot with feedings. Sometimes he will only take 2.5 ounces and it has been 4 hours since he last ate. I feel like he is not eating enough. He will cry everytime I put the bottle back in his mouth. He burps good. We have been through zantac, prevacid, Nutramigen, and Neocate. Nothing has helped and the GI Dr. is saying he is colicky. Anyone have similar feeding troubles? Did it get better after 3mo.?
Re: LO not a big eater
My LO is 3 1/2 months and she still only eats 2- 21/2 ounces per feeding. She "typically" eats every 2 hours or so but I use that very loosely. She can sometimes go 4 hours without eating again, but then other times she wants to eat every hour or hour and a half. She is not big at all, 11 pounds 4 ounces, I figure she definitely tells me when she is hungry and she definitely tells me when she is done, her bowels are normal and she is not fussy so I figure she is just not a big eater. The doctor did have me start adding formula to her breast milk to bulk up the calories and that has seemed to help but they dont seemed overly concerned.
Good Luck
Yes, that is just like DD. I went from BFing, to eliminating milk/soy, then top 8 allergens, then total elimination diet, then Nutramigen, and finally Neocate. She still has no set feeding schedule or amount. I have a freezer full of BM she can't drink, and I throw out ounces and ounces of Neocate every day that she refuses.
Her growth has slowed down but her weight is fine. She eats best when she is sleepy. I have given up trying to solve her colic and am just waiting for her to outgrow it. She is almost 6 months. Sigh.
She is also on zantac and prevacid.
ds#2 is 3 months old and usually takes 2.5-3oz per feeding.
ds#1 was the same way. We never even used bottles that held more than 4 oz.
~after 34 cycles we finally got our 2nd little bundle of joy~
