Hi Ladies- I am EBF my 5 month old twin boys. They are still nursing about 10x a day (2 of those times are a quick nurse before naps). Is this a normal amount to nurse? Just seems like they should start to space out feedings, they are nursing about every 2 hours during the day. Thanks!
Re: 5 month old, nursing how often?
I'm no expert, but my EBF 5 mo nurses about 6-7 times a day in a 24 hour period. It was more, but I've started to realize that I was sticking the boob in her face whenever she was in pain (teething) or tired, or what not and ever time she woke up. Once I realized that I could comfort her with cuddles, the amount of feeds decreased. We're about every 3 hours now, plus at least 1-2 night feeds.
My theory is do what works for you. If you are fine nursing that often, then it's not a problem. If it is too much (and I don't blame you if it is! Twins! That must be tough), then you could try spacing feeds by delaying 5-10 minutes until you reach 3 hours. My LO fed a little longer once her feeds spaces (from 4 minutes to 8 minutes). However, I would trust the other responses you get from more experienced mama's more than mine with respect to what's normal.

Normal! Our tendency is to push babies towards "spaced out feedings" to meet our "3 meals a day" mentality. But in fact it's better for all of us, particularly babies, to eat more frequently.
