Babies on the Brain

picking a name

So, how do you all feel about picking a name for LO. With DD we had her name picked out way before I was even pregnant. Now that we are thinking about 2 , i am obsessed with looking through name books. It actually causes me anxiety not having them already picked out. I know i probably sound like a fool, but its my worst nightmare to deliver a baby and not have name. i am a bit ocd in the planning department so i suppose with pregnancy thats really the only thing u completely control is why i obssess with it.

How did you or will you choose a name for LO? especially those with 2, what helped you decide?

Re: picking a name

  • I like the idea of picking names early especially because DH can be so indecisive. It really took him almost 2 years to just pick out a computer since I left it entirely up to him! I have a couple of favorite names and every once in a while he will toss in an idea. But he has no interest in picking favorites before we are pregnant. I also worry that we'll end up in the delivery room without a name picked because we don't agree on anything, lol!

  • I'm obsessed with names and think that there is so much in a name. I think about names all the time. I don't have kids yet, but I have a boy and a girl name picked out for when the time comes.

  • We just found out we're pregnant nad DH has pages of scribbles where he's written down names. I'm not too worried yet.

My parents had a male name, no female name picked out for me. They named me from a hospital-provided book they flipped through because it's the only way they could leave the hospital. FWIW, I love my name. The male name they picked out was heinous!

  • I'm totally obsessed with names - I spend a lot of time on the Baby Names board and we are not pregnant with # 2 yet.  We were pretty solid on DD' name literally like a week after our BFP.

I brainstorm with DH now, but I think for him he will be more into it once we are actually pregnant :)

  • I don't have children yet, but I'm obsessed with baby names! I feel anxiety when I don't have a favorite name picked out!

My hubbs and I have been discussing baby names since the beginning of our relationship. We composed a list of our favorites and over the years, names have been added, taken away, and so on and so forth. We finally decided on names for both genders, and they've
been the same for over two years now!
  • We looked through tons of books and online to find our names. We also took suggestions from friends.

  • We had two favorites (a.k.a the ONLY ones we could both agree on) picked out before DS was born but didn't officially decide until we were in the hospital sitting around in labor.

I liked doing it that way- it let us be very vague with the nosy busybuddies who wanted to know beforehand and judge our name choices. Once DS was born, no one could tell us about their annoying/mean/spoiled third cousin who had the same name.

  • Lurker here... No kids and just started TTC but DH and I decided eight after my dad died what our first son's name would be. DH's first name, by his family's tradition, and my day's middle name. I'm really hoping we end up with a boy at some point.
  • We didn't pick out DS's name until we found out he was a boy and we will probably take the same approach with #2

When we chose DD name, we didnt tell anybody. i did not want to hear anyone IRL opinion. we were happy with her name but did have a backup name just in case, but ended with our original pick.
