Nursing Strike?

DS has refused to nurse during the day for about a week. I usually can get him to nurse in the middle of the night because he is still half asleep. He hasnt really wanted bottles either, which is weird. I have to basically force him to drink when its been over six hours since he has eaten. He will eat cereal like its going out of style, so I just try to put as much BM in there as possible so he gets at least some of it!

Do you think this is just a phase? I dont want him to get so used to the bottles and then refuse nursing for good.

  • If he's getting bottles- that could be the reason.  The more we gave my son bottles, once he started to be interested in the world around him, the more he didn't want to BF, because he could take a bottle while he watched the world around him.  Try taking him into a quiet, semi-dark room, that doesn't have anything going on (no TV, no smart phone, no fun things to look at and touch) every time you want to nurse.  It sounds like a pain, and it kind of is, but it should take about a week before he's interested.  I would refrain from giving any bottles, as he'll eat when he's hungry.  It also may be that he's not really ready for solids, so I'd *try* to wait on giving him solids until after he's nursed.  I know it's a lot harder than that, but he won't let himself starve.  :)   Good luck!
