Do you keep DC out of daycare when they get their shots?

DS has his 4 month shots next Thursday. We will be out of town M-W, so i wanted him to go Thurs so not to loose his routine. However, I know they sometimes need special attention when they get shots. Do you keep yours out of daycare on shot day?

Re: Do you keep DC out of daycare when they get their shots?

  • I always schedule his shot appointments towards the end of the day on a Friday.  Then, I don't need to worry about whether or not to send him back to daycare.

  • No, I don't.  DS does pretty good with his shots, so I don't really see the need in keeping him out for a day and missing a day of work just because he might be a little cranky or have a low grade fever, especially since I know the cause.

  • we have alwasy scheduled her appt at the end of the day & she has always gone back to DC the next day   GL!
  • I didn't keep him out of daycare when he had his 4 month shots.  They went a lot smoother than 2 month shots... no crankiness or fever.

He had his appt first thing in the morning and then I took him in.  His teacher said he did just fine.  We couldn't even tell he had shots.  One of the other moms at his daycare said she had the same experience with her DS's 4 month shots.

In the future, I think I'll just make the appt for the end of the day, though, just in case.

  • We had an am appt, and took her home afterwards.  I didn't need to, but I wanted to pay special attention to her.  She doesn't nap well at daycare, and I wanted her to be able to take a good afternoon nap.  I probably will do the same for the 6 mo shots.
  • I never took DD out. I just let the DCP know that she'd had shots and to let me know if anything was wrong. Fortunately, she handled all of her shots just fine.

  • Ditto pp - I always schedule shots towards the end of the day so she goes to daycare per usual and just gets picked up early.  I keep her home after that and she returns to daycare the next day.

  • nope, we do our appointments in the morning and he goes back to school. I will give him some tylenol, I usually get a note from the doc about him getting tylenol for the shots and he's fine.

  • i schedule her shots at the end of the day bc:  1) she's on my watch at home; and more importantly 2) she's able to sleep off the pain should she feel any discomfort.
  • i did. but it was a friday and i decided just to work from home anyhow
  • I never have - he usually gets his shots at 8:30 and then goes right to school.  I usually leave him with some tylenol incase he's uncomfortable and they know they can call me if he is miserable.

  • My son has always gotten his shots on a Friday, so he did not go to DC afterwards.  That would make me a little nervous.  My son did not have any bad reactions, but he does get really fussy the day of and the day after.  I would prefer him to be in my care after getting shots.

  • I never had to. Neither of them had reactions. You could always give some Tylenol before sending to daycare as long as DC seems OK or close to OK.
  • No. Sometimes I schedule them for first thing in the morning so I just get tot work a couple hours late. Or I do them as late as I can in the afternoon so I just pick them up from daycare a little early. I always give them a dose of Tylenol about 30 mintues before and have never had a problem. Obviously  I let their teachers know in case they are especially fussy. Both girsl even got their blood work done last week and then went to daycare right afterwards.
  • DD has never had a reaction to any of her shots but we usually schedule her shot appointments for Friday afternoons so she has the rest of the day and all weekend with us.
  • Not at all.  I give my D tylenol before the shots and tell daycare to give her more if she seems fussy.  Both of my kids have always pretty good with shots but I just let daycare know.
