Feeding Schedule - 2 Month Old

We have been giving our two month old 4 oz. of formula every three hours. However, this week she has been completely off the schedule. She's eating sometimes two hours apart or going as long as six hours without eating (at night). She is still getting about eight feedings in during a 24 hour period. They are just randomly spaced out now.

Is it normal for this to change suddenly? My husband is thinking we need to up her amount to maybe 5 oz. in a feeding. I'm wondering if she's trying to catch up on her eating during the day, because she is having longer stretches at night.

I'm not necessarily worried about overfeeding her, because she's very good about letting you know when she's full. She turns her head away, moves the bottle with her arm, or uses her tongue to push it out.

  • My LO eats 5oz (or more) every 5 (or more) hours. He has been doing this for a while. I don't see a problem with upping her ounces since she lets you know when she is done (my LO does the same thing).

  • We have been giving our LO 4oz. of formula about every 2-3 hours during the day too.  He is 2 months old as well and is way more sporadic in his eating than before.  I guess he hit that growth spurt around 6 weeks like they say and he was eating 4 oz. every two hours on the mark, except for at night.  He is going a good 6-7 hours without eating at night.  But once he wakes up in the morning it goes back to about 2-3 hours.  And sometimes he finishes the bottle and sometimes he leaves 1/2 - 1 oz. left.  We have a pediatrician appt. this week, so we are going to ask the doc. about how much formula to be giving him at this stage.  He seems pretty satisfied with his 4 oz., but he is definitely changing again like your LO.  It seems like it's normal.
  • We just upped her to 5 oz per feeding and she's started going longer in between feedings.  It seemed like we'd had her at 4 oz per feeding for a long time and she was doing well with that.  We tried 6 oz when she was still acting hungry, but she was spitting up more, so we backed her off to 5.

  • You could just got to 4 and half ounces. When my little one was about 7 weeks that's went we went to that. She is 12weeks this Thursday and we are slowly doing 5oz bottles. Throughout the past month if she seemed still hungry after her meal we would just make her another ounce. She also started Sttn at about 6 weeks. Goes down at 10 and sleeps till 430. Up to eat for 30 min then back down till 9. Good luck!
