Daycare Center vs. In Home Care?

I was curious as to what everyones preference is? Why would you chose a Center over in home care or vice versa?

Re: Daycare Center vs. In Home Care?

  • I am choosing to do in home care for my baby b/c the woman is a friend of the family...and is close to home (10 min max).  An added plus is that the grandparents live 2 houses down from her in the event that I get stuck late at work or the baby needs to be picked up earlier.

  • Because of my job, I am in daycares several times a week and often I see underpaid, burnt out "teachers" who are often not in ratio as the daycare boasts.  I will go the in home route for the low numbers (3 kids max) and for the nurturing care they are able to give as they do not have a curriculum they are tied to (a curriculum for babies is rediculous anyway...).

  • I explored both options and I am going with the Home Care.  I toured some of the best daycares in this area and I still did not love what I saw.  I saw very young women taking care of the babies that did not seem too nurturing.  Plus most have 8 infants to 2 workers in one room.  Too many kids for my liking.

The home care I am using she has no more than 4 kids at a time.  She has over 20 years experience, close to my home, licensed and insured.  One other major plus she was about half the cost of Daycare centers!!  So why would I have chosen differently.
