I am 37 weeks and the doctor scheduled a growth ultrasound for next week. Has anyone else experienced this or measured behind? Does this lead to an induction? I am not one to post but would like to know of anyone else's experiences. Thanks!
I had this around 32 weeks as I was measuring 2 weeks behind. After the ultrasound however we were told the baby was already measuring 5lbs at that time and if anything was measuring a couple weeks ahead. Sometimes our bodies are able to "hide babies" and the ultrasound is truly meant to give the Dr. a better idea of how the baby is doing. There are some moms that I have read on here that measuring small lead to an induction as the doctors felt the baby would grow better outside rather than in. During the ultrasound/scan they measured baby, reviewed blood flow in the umbilical cord, and checked my fluid levels. In my case everything seemed great so we are staying right on schedule and waiting for LO to arrive on her own.
I have one scheduled for Monday (37w0d) b/c that's when my "once every four weeks" appt falls. I am high risk but I imagine they just want to check your fluids, cord, growth, etc as PP said. I'd enjoy the opportunity to see LO one more time and be thankful you get this last scan "just in case" you need an induction
I honestly wouldn't agree to one unless there was a reason. Those things can be off by a pound or more and can lead to unnecessary inductions. Just my two cents!

This. And my little dude is supposedly "measuring big" - over 8lbs at 38 weeks...which has me convinced that I am birthing King Kong. I know they are off by pounds. I know I am unnecessarily worrying. Which is my point - causes unnecessary worries...

IMHO I would still do it just don't take much from the weight estimate they give you. They check other important items in the growth scan/ultrasound. The aren't just estimating the weight of the baby as they also check the blood flow in the umbilical cord to make sure the placenta is doing its job along with the fluid levels. My OB hasn't changed my due date and I wouldn't expect her too even though they said I was measuring early. The first ultrasounds are the best at dating the pregnancy but the other two items they check are very important.
I'm going to have one in a couple of weeks to see if I have another big baby. I want a vbac but it's higher risk after a csection with a larger baby. As of right now my baby is measuring alot smaller then my first. Still not 100 as my first measured avg , then a week before I had my son my doctor guessed he was a big 8lbs , but I had a 9lbs 12oz little boy. Basically like everyone says it's not accurate but helpfull in some cases.
