Most popular baby names of 2012

2012 isn't over yet, so I don't know how/why this list is out already, but here is one:

https://www.babycenter.com/top-baby-names-2012

DS name jumped up to #26. Boo. And all the names I like so far for future children seem to be in the top 40. Darn. I have been really crushing on the name Emma lately and it is #2! Sad

Re: Most popular baby names of 2012

  • If its the same list i saw on tv yesterday, ava was 5, so depressing. we picked her name like 2.5 years ago when it wasn't popular at all. i really hope she decides to go by grace when she is older.

And are favorite name for the possible next lo was 2.

  • Hate when names I like get popular before I get a chance to use them. I should see where our name for #2 falls..

  • Happy to see that Joshua is in the high 20s. Sad to see that our favorite name for a girl, which used to be unusual, is now in the top 10.

  • Eli didn't get as high as I thought it would.  I just checked our potential names for this LO and Max is right under Eli and Luke isn't listed. Stella and Kaylee are on there, but Eden isn't. Hmm..

  • Well, glad to see Laura isn't on the list. Our boy name for #2 isn't there, either, which surprises me a little. One of our girl names is (Elizabeth/Elisabeth), again, not exactly surprising. I've been crushing on Sabrina nn Brin lately, though. Maybe we'll reconsider when we get to that point?

  • Just wanted to point out, this is the result of a BabyCenter survey and not actual statistics. The SSA list is a more accurate source, but the 2012 list won't be out for a while.

ETA: I guess I should have said, more accurate source for names in the US. Not necessarily for everyone :-)

  • Sad to see that Lucy has jumped 30 spots (although I'll be interested to see how this list compares to the official SS list when it comes out next Spring).

  • DS's name is Ethan Jackson. :/ H's middle name is Jackson, and he wanted to keep it. Ethan was the only name we both really liked. However, it is not a popular name in my small county. I know that because everyone knows everyone and what everyone is naming their babies. I know 3 Ethans in total.

  • We're 78 on the list, woohoo!

  • Mine didn't make the list... Yay!

  • Christopher is only number 71! I am actually surprised it is not more popular. His middle name however isn't on the list at all.

  • Crying Aria is #63... it wasn't in the top 100 last year.

ETA: It's only that high in the "babycenter population". It's not quite that high in the US population.

  • Ive loved the name Emma since the moment Rachael on friends just had the baby, and gasped "oh! Emmaaaaa.... see? I dont want itttt?". Its just the most perfect name, and unfortunately became the most popular.

Also, Ive had Jacob Ryan picked out since I was a kid... stupid Twilight.

  • I've got a Sophia (Sophie) and an Ethan. I guess we like popular names. It's okay, NBD to me.

  • We were set on Sophia for DD2 and then H saw a list that had Sophia as the #1 most popular name. I guess he didn't continue reading down to see Olivia a few spots lower! It doesn't matter to me, though. My name is extremely popular for my age group and I was always one of a few but that never bugged me.
