I also posted on 12-24 months.I am buying a train table and some wooden trains for my lo who is 20 months.. he loves Thomas from the show and we have a few ... So which wooden ones are the top ones? and is there a list of the trains? I go Toys R us and there are sooo many trains taht I am so confused. I dont want to buy duplicates and he doesnt need the all right now... Is there a place to get them less expensive? I am current;ly looking at Amazon. TIA!!
Re: Thomas Wooden Trains?
I would say start with Thomas, James, and Percy and maybe one "special" train like the red caboose or Hiro. As your son gets more involved (books and movies) he'll let you know his favorites
We even have a few because DH or I wanted them (Annie & Clarabelle, Toby). This month DS wants Spencer because he made a new friend who happens to be named Spencer too.
We also find some for about 1/2 price at Marshalls and TJMaxx in the toy section from time to time, along with track sets and accessories.
I think the anniversary set is a great starter, there is a vendor on amazon selling it for $33 right now...you get Thomas Percy James Toby a caboose and a tender (coal car).
However if your LO really doesn't know the show or characters, the Cisco starter set is great and way cheaper and works great w Thomas trains and accessories down the road...
Check eBay too! I get fantastic deals on there - you just have to buy from US seller and try to find new in box.
The ones we started with were:
Thomas
James
Percy
Toby
and some fun ones like the aquarium cars or milk cars....
We started with Thomas, James, Percy, a cargo car, and the caboose. Percy and Thomas are still his favorites, even slept with them last night. DS also likes Toby and Hiro because they look different. I would say to stick to the ones frequently mentioned on the show. We have a few random trains and he wants nothing to do with them. DS plays with his toys like dolls, they take on the personality from the show. Lots of times, he recreates stories from the show.
Also, just a bit of advice about tracks...don't get wrapped up in only buying Thomas tracks. You can buy huge sets of wooden tracks that fit the Thomas cars for a whole lot cheaper. That leaves spending room to buy more cars :-)
