Wagon Suggestions

We are getting out daughter a wagon for Christmas. We have narrowed down our choices to the Radio Flyer pathfinder or the Step 2 wagon with door. I've always liked the Radio Flyers and I know their brand name is well known however the Step 2 wagon had two things the radio flyer doesn't have. It has a door for easier entry and exit as well as an under the seat storage or any storage at all for that matterthe radio flyer has none. Does anyone have any experience with either to help us make our decision? We definitely want a plastic wagon and don't want to spend more than 100...thanks!

Re: Wagon Suggestions

  • I know it is more than you were looking to spend but we have the radio flyer ultimate wagon & love it- the sun shade has been helpful on many occasions esp when the kids were younger & in the summer we take them to the pool in it, etc. (though I think you can buy that as an add on for the other if you want?). Also it is not really worth $50 LOL but I do love that there are 2 cup holders for the adults/wagon pullers  by the handle, I frequently have bottles of water for us stuck in there.

I would look at the dimensions of the wagons youre looking at and be sure there is enough room for the kids to grow bigger & that theyre comparable if you're comparing the two.  We often will put pool bag or something in between our kids in ours and it is fine. Also the ultimate wagon as a little space behind one of the kids' seats to put smaller things (like a small cooler or a small beach towel or something.

But if you really don't want to go to a different wagon, another option is the radio flyer storage bag that can be purchased separately & attaches to the back of the wagon for extra storage. It is pretty inexpensive & if the storage thing is a big factor for you & you like radio flyer better, that could maybe even it out.

The door entry wouldn't matter to me, my kids don't have much trouble at 3 climbing in & out though I had to put them in & out when they were younger- it really wasnt a big deal or an issue. That little storage compartment is nice though.

  • I got the step 2 wagon at a consignment sale last year.  I can't compare to the Radio Flyer, but we like it, and I just wasn't willing to spend more.

  • I think they're pretty comparable. I looked at both as well and decided I preferred the Radio Flyer brand over the few little "extras" I didn't feel were that important with the Step 2.

  • We have the Radio Flyer wagon with the sun shade on top. Got it at Target in the spring for about $60, but I've seen it going on Craigslist for like $30-40. What I liked about this wagon more than the other brands were the wheels. They're stronger and taller than a lot of the other brands. This helps with going over curbs or bumps in the grass. My friend has the Little Tikes one and the fat wheels wouldn't go over the curb because it was too close to the wagon part. It was really difficult to maneuver whereas the Radio Flyer is very smooth. I've seen bags you can purchase to attach to the seats if that's a need for you. But yeah, I'd stick with Radio Flyer all the way. Hope this helps!
