For mobile: F/up A/S Ultrasound (21w5d)- funny
So, for those that don't know- I had my A/S at 17w5d b/c they ran the quad screen on me (which i didn't ask for) and it came up abnormal. This is after having the NT where the results were stellar! They bumped up my scan b/c I didn't want to do anything invasive like amnio etc.
Of course 17w is a little early, so they wanted to see me again to get a better read on the heart. We had our f/up US yesterday and everything looked and was measuring great. He's right on track for 21w5d at just shy of 1lb.
*Funny- I had a moment where I asked if we were sure it was a boy. Ironically, as I was saying this, the money shot came up! And the PN zoomed in (3D no less) took a pic and printed it out for us! DH, doc and I had a good laugh and I said I was going to frame it and show it to his first date
*Side Note: Anyone else a little taken aback by their PN? I know their job is to look for the worst, but I think sometimes she could save some comments. Like "It looks good, but you know things hide." and "We will be doing periodic U/S on you in 3rd tri b/c of your age (40) and how it correlates to premature fetal death."
Can you just say "It all looks good!" and "We will be doing periodic US just to be safe??" It all about how you say stuff sometimes. I wonder if they have to be this blunt b/c of legal reasons? We capped our appt yest w/the fetal death comment- thank god I went to my OB next who is very optimistic and upbeat, she saved the mood!

LOL on the "money shot". But boo to your PN! There's just no reason for comments like that. They certainly are not helpful or constructive. It's not like we aren't acutely aware of our age and the extra risks it can bring. I haven't had any of my docs make comments like that. Even when my OB thought this pregnancy might not make it, she kept it to herself for the most part and only told me later after we found out all was OK.

There is no legal reason to be such a crepe-hanger. I work with a FANTASTIC doc who is amazing at talking to families honestly without being any more alarming than is necessary. When he talks to a patient and the family about code status, for example, he makes a point of saying, "We don't expect there to be a problem, but we ask all our patient's this because we just never know what might happen at any given time so we just want to cover our bases, so if your heart were to stop or you could no longer breathe on your own, would you want [x, y, and z] done. Again, we don't anticipate this happening, but we like to have you start thinking about this at least, just in case."
Why can't your PN say things like that? Thank goodness for awesome OBs!
I'm glad the U/S went well. Screw the age factor-- seriously, we get it already. But more women over 40 have healthy pregnancies and deliver healthy kids than don't. Sheesh Loueesh! Congrats on your money shot!

Glad the U/S went well.
WTH with the PN though?? I have noticed that some of the staff at some offices are just ridiculous and have no idea what the hell they are talking about...they just say stuff w/o regard to how it will make the patient feel. I have had that happen several times and left in tears b/c I felt like something was wrong. It's annoying and unprofessional IMO.
You're PN sounds like the MFM that did my scans during my pregnancy with DD....she always reminded me of the Christina Yang character in Grey's Anatomy. I felt like I was in excellent hands clinically, but MH and I never left her office with warm and fuzzy feelings despite having a normal and uneventful pregnancy.
Luckily, like yours, my OB/Gyn made up for that...she always helped me put things in perspective if I was a little worried.
I'm glad all is looking well!
