Clicky: Walking and Talking

Where is your LO with walking and talking?  I read somewhere that 50% are walking by 1.  I don't know what the odds are for talking.

Re: Clicky: Walking and Talking

  • I think DD is closer to walking than talking.  I think she is *almost there* with walking.  And maybe that's why her babbling has slowed down.  (She doesn't seem to babble as much right now....she shrieks a lot when she gets excited.)  Hopefully once she's walking she'll return to her efforts to talk...

  • DD says baby and peek (she loves playing peek-a-boo). No walking yet, but started standing solo over the weekend.

  • I don't really know exactly where we fit into this. For one I would say that boys tend to develop certain cognitive skills slower than girls do.

LO has taken a total of 4 steps on his own and cruises on everything... but I guess I wouldn't consider him as walking yet. He says mama, dada, and baba (among other things) but sometimes I don't feel like he knows what he's talking about/or calls everything mama... other times he puts his hands up to me and says mama so it's clear he knows what it means. I need a SS* LOL

  • DD was verbal really early (8 months) so she has about 25 words that she uses.  My current favorite is when I am holding a piece of food she likes and she approaches me and says "bite".  She started taking steps around 11 months but it wasn't until the past week or so that she has really transitioned to walking more than crawling.

  • LO was an early walker but not some much in the talking department.

He makes sounds for certain words so I guess that's the beginning of things. His words would be ball and hot. That's about it, haha!

  • DS started walking a month ago, and is getting really good at it. He still babbles a bit, but can distinctively say hey, mommy, daddy, bottle, doggy, kitty, and truck.

  • DD doesn't walk on her own yet. She stands and lets go of the furniture but then will slowly lower herself to the ground, almost like she's going to walk and then thinks maybe it's not such a good idea.

She says mama, dada, hi, leche (they speak spanish to her at daycare), uh oh, happy, and ammie (for our dog sammie). Although, like PP said, sometimes she just babbles the words and doesn't really mean them, and other times she clearly will mean them (like when someone walks in the room and she waves and says hi).

  • DS is trying to talk up a storm. He recently said "Hi Dad" when I was changing him and DH came into his room. He likes to mimic things we do and say, so now we're really having to watch what we say.

He loves to walk with his push toys, but when it comes to doing it on his own, he has no confidence. Once in a while he will stand on his own for a couple second, but then gets scared and goes to crawl. The more he practices, the more he will want to do it on his own.

  • DS has been walking since 9.5 months. His babbling stopped then. He has just recently started babbling again. He said dada for the 1st time directly to DH, last week.

  • My little guy has been walking since 10 months but the only word we get is dada, and its not really directed at my DH.  Nothing else....dadadadadadada all day long.  He can make other noises, and sometimes will throw an "h" "m" or "b" sound in the mix, but mostly just dada.

  • No walking here, not even standing alone yet.

DD says dada, mama, and baba but I don't really consider it talking yet since she kind of says it all over the place, not consistently having any kind of meaning.

  • We're the opposite of most- we've got a great talker. He can repeat more words than I can count and loves to throw things down and say "dropped it."

But he refuses to try to walk. No clapping, waving, or pointing either. Just goes to show how different they all are!
