Nurses... CPR ?

My practice just got bought out by the big hospital system here. We now have to do CPR skills checkoff on the dummies hooked to the computer, no instructor. Well I couldn't pass. It told me I wasn't doing chest compressions hard enough. I know how to do CPR. I did it 2 weeks ago and cracked some ribs so I'm sure I can press hard enough.
I had to request a session with an instructor. I feel like a complete dumb ass.. Apparently this is very common, the manikins are way to sensitive.
Anyone else have issues with this type of check off?

Re: Nurses... CPR ?

  • Yes! Those darn maniquinns are very hard to compress, much more so than an actual person. At my last course I had so much trouble compressing enough to turn the light from red to green green obviously indicating full compression. Luckily the instructor was present and could clearly see I was doing my compression correctly and I passed, so meeting with the instructor is a good idea they can tell the difference between operator error vs. possible computer error.

  • Thanks Liberty. I felt so dumb. I spent over an hour trying to pass.
