I'm really curious why on earth you wouldn't ask for a reason?
It isn't everyone's natural impulse to question a doctor. We're brainwashed a bit into that, and depending on the doctor's bedside manner, we can be intimidated into silence. Unfortunately, women in this country have to be vigilant to not get railroaded into the labor and delivery machine that is governed by convenience, money and avoiding lawsuits (money again). The other day there was someone bumping from L&D who I felt was in this situation, and I did a head slap but didn't reply, because what can you say at that point.
I don't want to jump all over OP for not questioning this like some of us would have. I hope OP does her own research...and since this is time-consuming, maybe just Netflix the Business of Being Born if you are short on time (controversial as it is, it's not going to take her long to get the full blast from the other side of the thinking on this). So feel free to add recommendations to this to how OP can quickly school herself and ask appropriate questions going forward!
Im also getting induced on Dec 14th! Im doing it because my dr will do it at 39 weeks if i ask for it if there are no complications and Im already progressing (which I am) and everything looks good! I got induced with my daughter and it went super fast and everything went perfect. good luck!

This whole thread is confusing to me. My doctor will not induce without a medical reason, which I am happy for. Why would a doctor induce if it wasn't medically indicated, and why would someone want that, with the risks (like the increased risk of c-section) it entails?
Maybe I have just heard too many horror stories of inductions (including my sister's) that end up with 12+ hours of unpleasant labor followed by a required c-section for failure to progress. If I have to have a c-section, I'd rather it not be because of my dr's ski trip, and I'd rather not go through hours of labor first if I can avoid it.
My doctor will do an electorial induction at 39 weeks and I'm all for it. Everyone has different reasons and opinions...my doctor obviously knows what she's doing and is leaving the choice to me.

This. Its my hospitals policy to induce at 41w and while some people are against it (they think you should wait until LO is "ready") I am all for it. If he would let me induce at 39 weeks I would go for it too. Some things my Dr. says spur me to ask questions because I am confused and need more clarification, but for the most part I just trust what he says. It may be that my mom is a nurse so I grew up being taught that Dr. knows best.

Im sorry, but LOL! Your doctor knows what SHE'S doing, but YOU make the choice? Am I the only one that finds this funny?

I think medical practitioners who induce at 39 weeks with no reason should have their licenses revoked. That is straight up malpractice in my book.

I'm assuming that is what her plan was. We really haven't needed my dr for anything other than checking the heartbeat and blood pressure. i havent had any complications and baby will be fully mature at 39 weeks. I dont see the problem in it.
Do you really think she would recommend something that would put my life or the life of my baby in danger?!? SHE gave me the option and the choice is up to ME

I was induced at close to 41w because my u/s showed low amniotic fluid and the NST indicated I was having contractions that I didn't know I was having. The induction process was very painful and DS was in distress a few times. I had to stay in the hospital an extra day because three hours of pushing caused my urethra to swell up I could not pee on my own. I hope I never have to be induced again.

Yes I'm judging and side eyeing you.
This.
So you didn't ask or Dr didn't say? If there's no legitimate reason, I'd be putting my foot down and saying no.
Me, too. Not a good idea to consent without a valid medical reason. Increases the chances with complications for you and/or baby.
You won't LOL about this when it turns from an unnecessary induction to an unnecessary c-section. Time to start asking questions.

Does everyone know that it's not the doctor or even the mother who knows when it's time?
In a NORMAL uncomplicated pregnancy, the BABY starts sending out a hormone signal to tell the mother's body that the baby is ready to come out.
