Trying to Get Pregnant

postive blue dye test, negative pink

My partner and I have only been trying for nearly one cycle, my cycles are 45 days and AF isn't due for another 2 weeks. I decided to test yesterday because I've been felling icky for the past few days, my boobs are slightly tender (happens a week or less before AF) and I've been having a dull lower back ache that won't go away. As well as feeling more tired than usual. Also I've been really warm and I keep asking others around me if its hot or just me and so far its been just me.

I bought some dollar store tests (pink dye) and they've come up negative, I tested with my first pee this morning and it came up negative, tested again 4 hours later with an e.p.t test and it was positive, although faint you can see that its positive, same thing yesterday when I tested with the e.p.t during the day.

I read two conflicting things online, one that says blue dyes are notorious for false positives, the other being you can only get a positive if hcg is present in your ursine. When i tested the results showed within 3 minutes.

Anyone have a similar experience? How long should I wait to test again?.

Normally I wouldn't think twice once I got a negative result but with how I'm feeling currently its hard to shake the fact that I might be pregnant, this ickyness doesn't feel the same as being sick

Hope it isn't all in my head.

Got a BFP on 11/30/12 using FRER. The only thing I was charting was my cycle and according to that the day I tested + I was 8dpo (CD24). So sorry ladies that feel like I couldn't have possibly ovulated, proof is in the pee :p

Re: postive blue dye test, negative pink

  • Blue dye tests aren't very reliable, which is why everyone here says to test with pink. I would test again with FMU with a pink dye test tomorrow. You aren't out till AF shows!

  • Yea, blue dye tests are notoriously wrong. They are known to give false positives. I would do what Jill said and do a FRER tommorow with FMU.. Best of luck to you !!

  • I wouldn't trust the blue dye. Only test with FMU with pink dye.
IMO I wouldn't keep wasting money on tests and would wait to test since your AF isn't late.

  • GL to you, but agree everything PP's have said about blue dye tests. Pink dye all the way! I wonder why they are still on the market if they have such a bad rep??

  • All three of my pregnancies were confirmed by the Wal-Mart blue-dye test. That said, I wouldn't trust a faint result. If it visibly started turning blue as the pee was passing through, then you're likely pregnant. If it took a couple of minutes and you can't be certain if the line is blue or gray, I wouldn't get my hopes up. Either way, test with a pink-dye, as they are more reliable, using first morning urine.

Also, if your period isn't normally "due" for another two weeks you might be ovulating now - many women on here experience similar symptoms as you are when they are in their fertile window. I would definitely continue having sex. Good luck!

  • Blue dye tests suck.  Also, if you aren't expecting AF for almost two weeks, wouldn't you have just ovulated, being way too early to test +.

I know others have already suggested it, but you should chart your basal body temperature (BBT) through Fertility Friend.  It's the only way, without a docotor, to confirm ovulation and actually know when AF is supposed to show and when AF is late.

  • Ok so i was lurking but just had to comment on your post. I had a false positive in june with a blue test. The line was super thin and to the left. All pinks were neg and af came 2 days later. Mine were equate brand. Good luck!

  • I would say either you aren't pregnant or AF would not have been due in 2 weeks. You should not be getting a positive test 2 weeks before you're due. You should be ovulating 2 weeks before you're due.

It's true that you can't get a positive without HCG in your system, I think. Blue tests aren't reliable, but it's a fault in the way the dye processes, I think, not in that it's misreading anything.
  • From what I've read blue dye tests are notorious for false positives.  Also, if your period isn't due for two weeks it seems like it would be way too early to test. Are you charting at all?

  • Okay.. so update ladies, got up this morning and bought a FRER, just got  BFP!!!!!! I just knew feeling this miserable was not from being sick, just feels different. So happy we got it on our first cycle of TTC. Thanks ladies for your feedback and suggestions, afraid I was going to turn into a POAS addict. GL to all you ladies!
  • Hmm - I gotta find those tests that you can take two weeks before a missed period.  Screw this waiting stuff!

yes it is 2 weeks before my expected period but I have 45 day cycles so its very possible I ovulated earlier than expected. I did read that women can ovulate anywhere from 7 to 21 days after a new cycle starts.

Possible, but actually, more accurate is that you O 10-18 (most commonly 12-14)days before your period. So if you have a 45 day cycle, most likely, you would O around CD33. You wouldn't be able to detect HCG until at least probably 10 days after that, so CD43.

Yes, the time it takes to ovulate varies. But the time after O to your period typically does not. It's usually 12 - 16 days. That's why people were wondering why in heck you'd take a pregnancy test 2 weeks before your period is due. You must have ovulated waaaay earlier this cycle.

    Congrats.

I'm just glad we picked it up from the Redbox, at least we were only out $1 and a Sat. night after dinner.
