My MIL knitted beautiful stockings for our family. The only downside is they are enormous. As in three feet long and almost a foot wide. I don't care much if h and I use them but I want the boys to use them since they were from her.
They are fun but we don't have a bunch of money to spend on Christmas presents, let alone stockings!
I thought id just put their regular gifts in there but Oliver's only gift from us is a scooter.
So, resourceful mamas... Help me out... What can I fill these with that won't cost me an arm and a leg and will actually get used??
Re: Help me with stocking ideas!
Clothes will definite fit. I think I will go through our handmedowns bin. Those clothes all look new and he loves pointing out what is on new shirts "fire truck shirt!".
He would also get excited for a flashlight and boxes of snacks. The stocking is definitely big enough for big boxes of crackers etc.
We always got 1 or 2 of those individual boxes of sugary cereal (we never had sugary cereal normally). We also got juice boxes. Plus socks and undies - each individually rolled up with a ribbon around them. Sometimes we got books or tapes.
We're putting new bath toys in the kids stockings - I found Thomas ones for J. And a box of crayons for J and blocks for K.
I just went to Gymboree the other day (not a place I normally shop, but we had a gc and a 20% off coupon) and I made out like a bandit. My $25 gc +2 dollars got gloves, 4 pairs of socks, 2 pairs of leggings, 1 pair of tights, and 3 pairs of underware. Yes, my kid is getting socks and undies and leggings in her stocking, they take up space!
Other things I am putting in there to fill up space: wind up toys, bulky little people cars, board books from Tj Maxx, a stuffed Cookie Monster I got for $4 on sale, new sippy cups to replace her gross old ones, coloring books from the Target $1 section....

I also think a big batch of homemade playdough would take up a good chunk!
Thanks for all of the ideas ladies!
We just have regular sized stockings and I bought a few toys from the Dollar store to fill them. Griff looooves those matchbox toy cars.
I do like the idea of pajamas and socks. Maybe I'll have to go shopping this weekend lol.
ooh, so many good ideas posted!
So far, I have for his stocking: a new toothbrush, crayons, a book & his card.
