I asked DH...

When we should move DD to her own room.  He got all sad, horrified I even mentioned it "no! not yet!!!!!.....um maybe next summer..."

And to think in the beginning I had to convince him that she needed to stay in the room until 6 months! Stick out tongue

I love having her in the room with us... has anyone had issues with having a LO in the room for too long?

Re: I asked DH...

  • Still happily bedsharing at 13 months. We'll transition him to a floor mattress eventually, but everyone seems happy for now!

  • Ha ;)

I bed shared with both kids until 15-16 months when we started transitioning them to their own space.  I still bed share with Eleanor half the night most nights - mostly because she is teething and waking and shares a room with Callum (so don't want to wake him too!).

  • DD just turned 2, there's no end in sight for us, we enjoy bed-sharing too much!

  • We bedshared with my DD until she was 13 months. Then we transitioned her to a crib in our room before moving her to her own room. For us, it got to a point where no one was sleeping well. Once we got her established in her own space EVERYONE slept much better.

I say do it until it doesn't work for you anymore. You'll know when that time comes. They are only little once :)

  • We eventually got to the point that we felt we were waking the kids when we went to bed and again when DH's alarm went off and when he got up. We felt we were waking them at times they wouldn't have woken on their own. It seemed to help a bit to have them in their own room around 7 or 8 months. But as long as it is working no reason to stop.

  • Yesterday, our 3 year old slept in her own bed for the first time. It was kind of bittersweet...For the past couple months, she has been occasionally sleeping in the sidecarred crib (which had basically sat empty until recently), on the couch (at her request) or in a nest on the floor. For about a week, she has been asking to sleep in her own bed in her room. Yesterday, I put the bed rail on her bed, she said good-night, then fell asleep. And, that was that! She slept all night in her bed, with no pressure from me or DH. I couldn't believe how smoothly it went. Oh-my DH was another one who had to be...talked into bedsharing and then realized how fantastic it was for us.
  • Our DS is 2.5. He was in our room until 18 months. I loved it, and I'll admit, sometimes I wish we could go back to bedsharing and room sharing.
