Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Need some help please

for what i'm about to write about my one year old son has only done this twice, Once when he was about 6/7 months old and just again tonight.  I know what he sounds like when he wakes up from a bad dream.  But these two times he's woken up screaming, so I run upstairs pick him up his whole body is limp and his eyes are almost in the back of his head.  It takes what seems forever to calm him down, It's heart wrenching to see my son like this for the second time.  The two times that he has done this it makes me feel in my gut that something is wrong. (seizure/night terror) i'm not sure.  I would like to know if anyone else has gone through this and what it ended up being or happening. Thank you

  • That does sound scary. Have you mentioned it to the pedi yet? I would call in the morning...

  • I would always go with my gut feeling. DD1 suffered from night terrors at that age, and sometimes I would get her and she would still be asleep. She would appear limp and her eyes would be in sleep mode, so would appear "rolled" back. I would turn a very bright light on and say her name very loudly until she woke up and recognized me. But, I never felt in my gut anything was wrong, which is odd because I am anxious by nature about my girls. Your son could just be asleep still and there is nothing at all wrong with him. But, if you can, I would take him to the doctor to rule out something that might be wrong. Your his mother, and you know best when something isn't right.

  • I agree with PP.  It may be nothing, but if you feel it in your gut and it is making you worry then talk to the pedi.  It will make you feel better to know that you acted on your feelings and sought some answers... even if it is just reassurance from your pedi.
