Where are you putting your Christmas tree?

We're currently baby proofing the living room for our new crawler so it doesn't seem like a good idea to plunk a new hazard in there. I'm not sure if I should put it somewhere else, put it up on a table, or put a baby gate around it. What are you doing?

Re: Where are you putting your Christmas tree?

  • We have a 7' tree in the living room... surrounded by a big a** fence. It's my dogs old ex-pen actually.. it's really pretty. Shiny gold and she hasn't bothered the tree a bit.

  • We just put up our tree where it normally goes.  I made sure to hang breakable ornaments up higher.  She crawls over to it sometimes, tries to touch the lights and steal the tree skirt.  But most of the times she leaves it alone.

This is my plan. I have small house. There is no other place to put it. Hoping to get our tree this weekend, maybe next (DH cuts down a woods tree while out hunting on our land. Not as pretty as a tree farm tree but much cheaper as it is free. Smile) We'll see how she does with it.

This as well. Our condo is pretty small, so there was only one location possible. Every day when we get home from daycare, I bring DS over to the tree with me to turn it on (it has a foot pedal switch) and when the lights come on I remind him "no touching" and we look at it and talk about the ornaments for a few minutes with me holding him. This seems to keep the curiosity at bay . . . for now.

This.. He barely wants to touch it. He was interested the first night I put it up. But since then he doesn't really care. Every now and then he crawls over to it and touches it and then leaves it. Breakables are up top and I just bought some shatterproof ones and put them on the bottom.

  • We have a window seat that we are going to remove the cushion and put the tree up there. It should be out of our little one's reach there. My sister put hers in a corner and blocked off the base (for the most part) with her couch and love seat.

  • Ours has been up since the end of October to get the youngest cat used to it... we gradually started adding ornaments and lights and dosed it with a can of pepper as needed .... by Christmas he should be pretty bored of it..I hope.

LO hasn't really been near it, his walker can't get past the strip of foam tiles in front of  it and he doesn't crawl over there.  He likes the lights but really hasn't made any attempt to grab at it when he is near.

  • Thanks for the replies! I'm still not sure what we'll do. My boy does not seem like the type to just leave it alone. I have this vision of DS pulling the whole thing down on top of him!
