MSPI - what do you eat?

We went to a GI today and if DS continues to have diarrhea, we have to have a stool test done on Wednesday. Depending on the results, I may become a MSPI mama with the rest of you gals. The GI is confident that they will come back showing a milk protein allergy; his stools are full of mucous, he's always been an extremely fussy baby (especially on days I remember having a lot of dairy), etc.

So, what do you eat? Almost everything I eat has dairy in it. How did you make the transition to a dairy free diet? What are a few quick snacks you eat throughout the day?

Just trying to prepare myself. Thanks ladies!

  • Check out the MSPI check-in in the post below this. The old posts are really helpful. So is mspimama.com.

  • We aren't MSPI exactly, but DD is allergic to milk protein and her twin, DS, is allergic to soy protein (and peanuts), so they follow a dairy/soy free diet. I just made a list of prepackaged food for a friend whose baby is MSPI, I'll try to copy and paste..... Of course, always check labels. (Many of these contain soybean oil and soy lecithin which DS is okay with).

    • Skinny Pop Popcorn
    • Teddy Grahams
    • Bunny Grahams
    •  Regular, mini, and Golden Oreos (Other varieties might be okay too, but I?m not sure)

?         Stacy?s Pita Chips (Plain and Cinnamon Sugar)

?         Applegate Organics Deli Meats and Grilled Chicken Strips

?         Oscar Mayer Deli Selects (Check the different varieties)

?         Tyson Frozen Chicken Nuggets/Etc. (Most varieties are okay)

?         Perdue Whole Wheat Chicken Nuggets Frozen or Refrigerated

?         Perdue Simply Smart Lightly Breaded Chicken (Most varieties are okay)

?         Oscar Mayer Beef Hot Dogs (Many Kosher hot dogs are okay, but some contain hydrolyzed soy protein)

?         Target English Muffins and Whole Foods English Muffins

    ?         Pepperidge Farm Rye Bread

?         Market Basket Brand Bagel Thins and Deli Thins

?         Joseph?s Pita Bread (check the label)

?         Brown Sugar Pop Tarts (I think a few other varieties are also safe)

Pillsbury Crescent Rolls and some Breadsticks

    ?         Daiya Shredded Cheese

?         Galaxy International Foods Rice Cheese Slices

    ?         Fleischmann?s Unsalted Sticks

?         Earth Balance Buttery Spread Soy Garden Variety

?         So Delicious Almond Milk Yogurt and Coconut Milk Yogurt

    ?         Amande Almond Milk Yogurt

?         So Delicious Coconut Creamer (I use the plain version for making sauces, but they make flavored that are good in coffee)

?         Whole Foods Vegan Chocolate Chips

?         Enjoy Life Chocolate Chips and Bars

    ?         Enjoy Life Cookies

?         Almond Dream Bites and ?Ice Cream? Sandwiches

    ?         Rice Dream ?Ice Cream?

?         So Delicious Coconut Milk Ice Cream

?         Most Duncan Hines Cake Mixes and Many Frostings from Duncan Hines and Pillsbury are okay

?         Dark Chocolate Brownies (Duncan Hines and I think Betty Crocker)

  • This wasn't my thread, but thanks for this snack list!
  • I have a sweet tooth so I bake a lot using that Earth Balance margarine and Enjoy Life choco chips.  They are expensive... Send them an email telling them how awesome they are and they might send you coupons.  My freezer is stuffed with cookies and cookie bars.  I pull out small batches one at a time.

We make potato salad almost every week -- I use Spectrum canola mayonnaise.  I take it for lunch along with a sandwich and nothing has to be warmed up.  The mayonnaise comes in a very annoying squeeze bottle but I'm still glad it exists.

  • The first couple of weeks suck and I lost like 5 pounds.  Then, I figured out all the loopholes.  Quick snacks are the hardest.  I eat a lot of Oreos (no kidding, I really do.  They are surprisingly dairy and soy free).

    PB&J Sammies

    Apples

    Cereal and rice milk

    Oatmeal

Some fancy organic brands of waffles are MSPI safe

    Pastas

    Rice cheese

    Scrambled eggs

    Toast

There's lots out there, you just have to adjust and read labels.
