vacation and walking

My DH and I are trying to plan a vacation before the baby gets here. Everyone said we should go to some island and relax on the beach. The thing about that is, we aren't the beach type of people. I like going to the beach but it's not a must for a vacation spot. Our vacations involve a lot of hiking and outdoor activities.

I'll be around 6 or 7 months for the trip and I'm not sure if I will be able to hike that much so we are looking for a place we can do a lot of sightseeing and enjoy good food. My DH likes the idea of going to New Orleans but everyone thinks it's a bad idea because it requires a lot of walking.

This is my first pregnancy so I have no idea what to expect when I'm that far along but is walking going to be that difficult around that time?

Re: vacation and walking

  • I think its different for different woman but I think you will get warn out quickly. Could you maybe do something where you take a bus tour around a city or trolley car?  I think those kinds of things would be fun. That way you are getting a chance to see different places without having to walk the whole time.

Edited: I'm not sure what's going on with my post so hopefully it isn't crazy. I was just going to add that I was talking about one of the buses that you ride on the top and get to look at the view.

  • Hmm, I went on vacation last time when I was about 7 months and I walked a good amount but it was really tiring. You think you can do it and then you get tired so fast! Maybe stay close to where things are so you don't have to walk really long distances all at once.

  • Thanks, I plan on taking transportation to as many places but I figured I'd be able to walk around and see things. I know I won't be able to do as much or walk as far as I can now but some of my friends made it seem like I wouldn't be able to move!
  • New Orleans is very walkable, plus they have a good trolley system that takes you to all the major sights. There are tons of good spots to stop and rest. I was there last March. The food was my favorite part, each meal I ate was the best I'd ever had. I had some oysters that seriously changed my life. It was pretty hot during the day time so that might be hard for you, but beautiful in the evening. I'd love to go back for our "babymoon"!
  • DH and I are going to San Antonio since its relatively close to Missouri. We are going to go to Sea World and The Alamo. I dont know where you are at but Branson is a lot of fun and so is Nashville.

  • I went to New Orleans when pregnant with DD.  I was in my early 2nd tri so it was no problem for me.  But my friend who came with us was at the end of her 2nd tri and was getting tired.  That being said, she was not a hiker/fit person to begin with.

I think you will be fine.  It was just tough for me wanting to eat the raw oysters (I did have 1 though:)
