Help me pick a dress, ladies? (Clicky/PIP+)

My DH is no help. It's for his holiday party Saturday night. His company is a client of mine and he's only been there about 5 months. I'll be there as his wife, of course, but also representing my company in a way (it's going to be weird). We're both in construction, so it won't be a super formal event. I bought 2 dresses and a skirt/blouse combo. The white dress and green dress are the same, but I think the white is out of the running because of my transparent skin. I'm leaning towards the leopard print skirt and blouse with a new pair of patent black pumps, I think. Or nude pumps? If I wear the green one, I have no clue what to wear over it in terms of a cardi/shrug. I hate my arms, so they have to be covered. WDYT? Do I look too old ladyish in the skirt? I need a woman's eye! TIA Smile (Disclaimers: My face is very, very tired. Beware o'eye-bags. Also, our master bedroom is very messy. Andplusalso, I have long legs for my body and it's difficult to find dresses/skirts that don't look super short.)

  • Honestly, you look great in all of them.  I'm super jealous of your tiny frame.

  • I voted for skirt but I also like the green. You just said you weren't sure what you would wear over your arms, even though I think you look great! I wish long and skinny legs were my problem! Smile

BTW, I don't think the skirt is old lady-ish at all.

  • I chose SKIRT.  Even though you have the skinniest body ever (jealous) and look great in all...  I like things a little longer that show a bit less leg.  So skirt it is.
  • I like the print on the skirt!

  • I'm not a huge fan of any of them. The belt on the dresses looks cheap. If you are going to go with the skirt, I would get a plain black top. All of the stuff going on on the top with the leopard print is way too much.

I agree about the plain black top.

  • You look great! I like the skirt best. It's feminine and pretty and not too short. The green one isn't bad but I think the white one looks too short. I have super long legs too and run into the same problem. annoying.

  • Thanks, ladies. I think I'm just going to return them all and start over. I've always been skinny, but it's been really bad since DD was born (possible thyroid problem that I was tested for today). None of my regular clothes fit, and I'm in a massive fashion rut right now. I feel frumpy and ugly and it s?cks. I kind of want to just hide out in leggings and big sweaters until the holidays are over, but that's not an option. Ugh. I need a personal fashion advisor to help me without spending a small fortune. My mom helped me pick out these options when we shopped Friday, but I felt rushed, and she and DH tell me I look nice even when I know they're damn, dirty, biased liars. I feel like an idiot now. Anyone have any other dress suggestions? Or stores to check out? I'll probably stop by Cach? tomorrow on my way home and say a prayer that they have something better. I'm going to go to bed with another big, fat "ugh" now. I think I've come to loathe shopping Tongue Tied (I never ever thought I'd say those words!)

  • I think the skirt outfit is super cute. You could even do a fun bright green or red shoe with the skirt and a plain black top. You look great!

  • Girl, you are beautiful!  Isn't it funny what one person despises is what others (me) totally covets?  I voted for the skirt because you feel more comfortable in it.  If it were me, I'd put a plain black top with 3/4 sleeves.  They say to use nude pumps to add length to your leg, but you don't need it, so it's whatever you have that's cute.  You don't want to go big with competing accessories or shoes since the skirt already is patterned.

Do you have a Nordstroms by you?  The Jr's dept. ususally has cute things for not too much $.  Also, they always have a personal shopper to use.  I've never used one, but I have friends that do.  Also, Smit recently used one and she said that she liked them.

I also agree with the PP about Express.  If I had your body, I'd also go to Bebe or that Maxazria store.

Please don't beat yourself up.  You are beautiful and your mom and DH are not liars.
