White noise machine req please!

I need a recommendation for a sound or white noise machine. It's for my older two (2 and 3 yo). They used to have a fan in their room, but they were playing with it (which is dangerous, imo) so we took it out.

Now, they can hear EVERY SINGLE THING that happens in the house. Like, I can say DD's name from the living room and she hears it in the room with the door closed. I am certain the bathroom and walking by her room wakes her up sometimes so I want something to cover that noise.

The trick is I need it to run on battery, not be plugged in to the wall.

Recommendations?

We have a cute stuffed giarraffe that doubles as a sound machine. You can get it at once upon a child. It takes AA batteries, but I don't remember how many.

I bought one at Bed, Bath and Beyond. Runs on AAA batteries, 15 bucks. Brand is My Baby. We are happy with it. It has four sounds, a song, heartbeat, ocean and straight white noise. I like it a lot.

Oh yeah, and there is a timer option but it also runs all night, which I love. Batteries last about two weeks for us, but we run that thing during naps too.

I have one from HomeMedics that I got at Target that can be plugged in or run on batteries. A variety of sounds and can run continuously or be put on a timer.

We have this one, the Homedics Sound Spa. We set it to ocean for white noise. DD has used it for nearly two years. Our house is on a main road with car doors slamming, car alarms and even a train that goes by. It's pretty good at masking the noise.

I also use the Homedics [sp?] sound spa. I love the battery feature and even used it for camping last summer. We swear by our's.
