What's DC's nap schedule?

Do you ever wake DC up from a nap?  DS's schedule is still shifted later than I want it to be (it's 9:40 and he's hopefully falling asleep any minute), but I think I'll have the problem I'm having even when his schedule eventually gets shifted earlier.  He generally gets up between 9-9:30 in the morning and is up for at least 2 hrs. before his next nap.  His naps are often 2 hrs. (today was 2 1/2) and then he doesn't need another for at least another 2 hrs.  Today, his second nap didn't start until 4:40.  I woke him up at 5:30, but who knows how long he would've slept.  I feel like no matter what I do, he ends up needing to be woken from at least 1 of his naps.  Anyone else have this issue?  If you ever wake DC up, is it to limit the length of the nap?  Or to try to "schedule" bedtime?

Re: What's DC's nap schedule?

  • I never woke DD up from naps.  She sometimes takes her last nap from 5 pm to 5:30 pm and still goes down at 6:45 pm for bed.   What would happen if you just let him nap for as long as he needed?  Maybe he is having a growth spurt?

  • 8 - 9 am : wakes up

    sometime between 10:20 and 11:30 : ?nap for 1 - 1 1/2 hours

    sometime between 3:00 and 4:00 : ?nap for 1 - 1 1/2 hours

    8 - 9 pm : bedtime

we tried to move his bedtime earlier after daylight savings time by waking him up early if he went down too late for a nap (he used to go to bed between 7 and 8) but it totally messed up his sleep at night and he ended up just taking a late nap. we?don't wake him up from a nap and the longer he naps, the more he STTN. ?we have established this routine based on DS's cues. ?have you ever tried just letting him sleep? ?or will he just stay up really late if you do? ?

  • I would kill for a baby who slept until 9am.
  • I've tried letting him sleep and it ends up making his bedtime even later because he's up for at least 4 hrs. after his last nap.  Actually, it's 10:15 now and he might have JUST fallen asleep and I put him in his crib at 9:30.  He woke from his last nap at 5:30.
  • DS is in asleep by 7:45 every night and sleeps until 6:00-7:00 every morning.  His first nap is usually around 9:00am and is 40 mins to 1.5 hours depending on the day.  His next nap is usually 2-3 hours after the first and lasts 40 mins to 1.5 hours.  I've never woken him from a nap, except if he takes a late afternoon nap that blends into his bed time.  This happened last week and I had to wake him to put his jammies on, change his diaper and nurse him...then he was back out for the rest of the night.
  • The last two days we're down to ONE nap.  Lord, help me.

    7:00  wake

    11:00-ish to 1:00-ish nap

    8:00-ish bed

I don't know how they do it at this age but they do, and no, they're not overly cranky.  Until just a few days ago they took two naps, one from 10:30-ish to 12:00-ish and another 45-minute nap (give or take) around 4:30 or 5:00.

  • Although I work from home, I wake DD up by 7:15 a.m. if  she hasn't already woken herself in order to get her ready before our nanny arrives and I start working.  She's up for about 1 1/2 hrs and then naps for about 1 1/2-2 hrs.  Her 2nd nap is about 2-2.5 hrs after she wakes up.  Lately she's been fighting her second nap and so she hasn't taken a third nap.  If she has a third nap, I do wake her if she doesn't awake on her own by 5 p.m. in order to feed her solids, give her enough time before bedtime and nurse her.  She's in bed by 7:15 - 7:30 p.m.
