Help me with meals

I've seen posts on here before about daily meals & solids. I just don't want to dig them up again... So I'm sorry. ETA: I just scrolled down and saw pregger's same question... Ignore me or help me- whichever lol!

But I just got back from A's 9mo appointment.

We've been consistently in the 50th percentile up until now.

With all his crawling around and being on the go, he's dropped a tiny bit of weight which is normal. But now he's a little bit below the 50%. My pedi suggested doing more solids.

We do fruit/oatmeal for breakfast. Snacks through out the day. Veggie/oatmeal for dinner. Sometimes it's hard to get him to snack- Maybe he's getting tired of the usual options: Graham crackers, puffs, cheerios, eggs etc.

How much does your kid eat? What does your kid eat?

Again, I'm sorry for the repeated post.

TIA!

Re: Help me with meals

  • Is there any reason you are not introducing meat yet?  We really do feed Ben anything we eat, with the exception of shellfish and honey.

For breakfast: scrambled eggs, oatmeal, omelets, yogurt with fruit, toast, whole wheat pancakes, kashi waffles, veggie sausage, etc.

Lunch or dinner: Pasta, turkey burger, hamburger, grilled cheese, tuna, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, chicken, green beans, pork chops, rice, beans, spaghetti sauce, potatoes, sweet potato, salmon, turkey, squash, applesauce etc.  Sometimes we will still use the veggie and fruit purees to up his intake for the day.

Snack: puffs, cheese, grapes, blueberries, baked apples, bananas, baby cheese puff things, ella's kitchen baby cookies, etc.

We do three meals a day and sometimes a snack.  It is harder to estimate amounts with solids, but I would say about 1/2 cup of food per meal??  That is really rough estimate.

  • We usually do veggies for dinner. The few times I have tried meats, he hasn't been much of a fan of them. I will try to get him more interested. If I'm having dinner, I'll let him have some of my meat. He prefers that over the puree.

Breakfasts sometimes come with a side of toast, eggs, or a waffle or something.

Dinner is usually the veg with a couple tastes of what I'm having.

Right now he's eating some shredded cheese.. lol.

It's tough, becuase he isn't consistent. One meal he's really cooperative and lets me spoon feed him. Then other times- not so much. Same with finger foods.

  • I'm trying to get better about meals. For breakfast Lauren today Lauren had mashed banana mixed with prune baby food to help her poop, and about a quarter of a whole grain waffle. Lunch was spaghetti with marinara sauce. She's had it with turkey but I forgot take it out of the freezer. Dinner will probably be a pouch of Ella's Kitchen baby food. Snacks are puffs or graham crackers.

I'm bad at even remembering to give her lunch!

When can we give them eggs??

    Eggs are good now!

  • Goldenleaves...yes, you can give her eggs.  The 'no eggs' thing 'til they're a year old is no more.  Or so my pedi says.  ETA:as long as there's no allergy of course...just watch her after you give her some the first time.  But my pedi says if there's not a family history of allergies, the likelihood that he'll have them are slim.

To Amber....Ian will not eat meat purees, and OMG I cannot blame him!  I could barely stand trying to feed it to him!  I give him little pieces of whateve meat I'm eating.  It's what is usually his 'finger food' while I'm feeding him the purees.  I typically just given Ian whatever we're eating but will still try and do at least a puree with the meal so that I know exactly how much fruits and veggies he's getting a day.  He loves eggs, loves string cheese...he'll eat pretty much anything.  But like I said, if I give him purees of any kind, I have to give him something to feed himself too, or he won't let me feed him.

  • Try feeding him things with a little fat in it.  If you are only doing fruit and veggies he isn't getting any source of fat in his diet.

Try adding yogurt and cheese if he won't eat meat.  Also, don't do meat alone try butternut squash, chicken or turkey and spinach.  It is a really healthy variety of food and the spinach and squash should overtake the meat flavor.

Also, I gave DD a jar of peas and creamed spinach which had some fat in it because they use whole milk to make it.  Have you tried giving him shredded chicken?  How about mac and cheese?

  • I'm so excited to try eggs! Things change so often, I think I had to wait until Ryan was a year old.

Shredded chicken is a good idea too. Basically all of these are. Why can't TB be like Pinterest? I want to pin this thread!

  • DD usually eats whatever we eat. If she's not eating what we eat, she eats a toddler graduate meal thing. She spits out pures.

  • I've read butter is good fat source, too... Can I use butter on toast?
    Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker
  • Yep, we use butter on toast and in things.  We use no salt added butter.  Like pps said, cheeses, yogurt, cottage cheese and things like that are good sources of fats.  Like kristin, we feed Lucia everything we eat.  Including shellfish.  Just not honey.  I also cook with milk, heavy cream, olive oil and things like that.

For breakfast today she had cheerios and yogurt mixed with mango puree.  For lunch we had turkey, avocado and mozzarella (I rolled mine, gave her the turkey and cheese and spoon fed her the avocado).

Avocado is a good source of fat, and Lucia loves it!

Tonight we're having pasta with pesto, chicken, and spinach.  She doesn't love plain chicken, but with a sauce she'll eat anything.  Yesterday she got bored of eating grapes, so H put blue cheese on them (we were having a snack of blue cheese and crackers, and grapes) and she downed them.

  • Paul loves string cheese, or cheese cut up into sticks so he can hold it and eat it.
