Going on vacation.

We will be going on vacation for two weeks and I'm nervous about how Clara will do. For those of you who have gone on a trip with LO, is there anything that you took with you that was a lifesaver or something looking back that you really wish you would have taken? Two weeks is a long time; having a time difference and a new environment will present enough challenges as it is so I want to make this trip as comfortable as possible. Any tips are greatly appreciated.

  • No suggestions but I am in the exact same boat. Traveling for ten days, three flights, staying at four different places, two diff time zones and super super stressed. Hopefully there is some good advice...this is what happens when I let my husband plan our trips.

  • My advice for you is to try as much as possible to let her nap as much as she does at home.  I know this is close to impossible to do on vacation, but hopefully, it'll help once you get home.  I took my baby out of town earlier this month and she took very few, short naps.  She was miserable and overtired by the end of every night, so she had an even harder time sleeping.  Also, take something she normally sleeps with or a toy she's familiar with.  I wish I had done this because, aside from the nap thing, she had a really hard time adjusting to being in a different environment.  It took about 2 days after I got home to get her back to normal.  Just my two cents.  I hope this helps!  Good luck to you!

Oh my, I would have major anxiety! The best tip I have from traveling with both my kids at multiple ages is to expect the worst and you will almost always be pleasantly surprised. There is SO much NEW stuff going on for babies in airports, planes, hotels, etc...that alone entertains them. I have good plane sleepers...the noise is soothing to them. Bring what they depend on obviously whether it's a blanket or swaddle. What else. Oh we always check the stroller and use the baby bjorn...the extra set of hands is always needed. Lastly, take a deep breath. I've found 9 times out of 10 people are sympathetic and understanding what it comes to traveling with kids. Good luck to you both!!
