I am curious as to what you are feeding your kids and how much they are getting.
We are still doing purees because he isn't ready to move on yet. We are lucky to get 6 oz of food in a day. Also we had to switch to formula after my surgery last month. He is only getting about 16oz of formula.
I know most of you are feeding off your plates and doing finger foods. How much do you think they are actually eatting? How much BM of F are you giving them? Anyone doing the 2nd formulas?
I finally realized our situation is quite different and I am going back to the feeding specialist next week. Every meal is a battle and it shouldn't be that way. Anyone else deal with that too?
Re: Food and feeding
Ian has actually dropped one of his bottles...we use formula. So, he's getting about 18oz of formula a day. He also eats 3 meals...which usually consists of a stage 2 puree and whatever 'we' may be eating. I still try and give him a puree at each meal so that I'm sure he's getting the fruits and veggies that he needs, but also giving him whatever we are eating. I can't just feed him purees, he's too interested in feeding himself. So, I give him something he can feed himself and he'll let me give him purees. I've tried some of the stage 3 foods, but they're absolutely disgusting! I can't stand the smell of it. The 2 times I've tried to give it to him, he's thrown up. I'm not talking gagging, like he does on occasion, I mean straight up throwing it up. I guess that's more with the meat ones, he will eat stage 3 fruits and veggies. But, it's hard to find stage 3 that doesn't have meat in it. I'm pretty much just going to skip the stage 3 stuff because he'll eat meat without it being in the baby food.
As far as formula goes...my pedi said that the "toddler" formula is more of a gimmick kind of thing. However, I actually looked at it this weekend, because I have some coupons. I thought it was less in a container and more expensive. However, I was wrong. There's actually a little more in the container for a little bit less money. The only difference I could tell, and we use Enfamil, is there's a little bit less carbs (which my dr said he could use less of), a little bit less vit K, but there was a little more iron and a little more calcium. So, my thought is, if I run out of the stash that I have now before he's 1, I will use the toddler formula then. It says 9 -12 months on it.
BTW: It's good to see you here! Hope things are improving!

Asher nurses so I don't know how much he's eating but he nurses every 3-ish hours. The two days that he's at daycare, he'll maybe have 12oz of milk. He hates bottles.
He's eating three meals a day, mostly table food. It doesn't seem like he eats a ton but his pedi said their portions should be small. If he does have purees, it's normally 4 oz per meal.
The girls LOVE solids. We do mostly purees at home because I bought way too many, but we also give them other food and they eat lots of other stuff at daycare (macaroni, oatmeal, cereal, etc.). They do much better with solids then they did with bottles. When did you introduce solids? It took us a few months before they would even entertain the idea of anything but purees. We started purees around 5 months and it's really only in the last month or so that they demand to have other stuff too. They do eat a lot of purees - probably 18-20 ounces a day - but it took us a long time to work up to that (and the girls are over a month older then your LO too). Their intake has gone up a lot in the past 2 months. They're doing great with solids now, but it's taken us quite some time to get them to this point.
For bottles we offer three 7 ounce bottles a day. I would say they drink between 18-21 ounces on average. Bottles are a fight and it takes us a long time to feed them. They'll throw the bottle at us with one hand and reach for food with the other. They just have no interest most of the time.
Some babies do really well with solids and some struggle. Just remember that solids aren't a huge deal until after 1. I think you're definitely doing the right thing by going for advice on how to help him become a better eater, but with everything else on your plate I would try to just follow their advice and not stress about it too much. Good luck!
Ethan is on formula. He has 5 bottles a day, and they are anywhere between 4-6 oz. So total formual is usually between 20-30 oz...most days close to 24 oz.
At E's 9 month appt I inquired about how to know if I should be supplementing his table food with baby food, or skipping the baby food (we started table food around 8 1/2 months). She surprisingly told me to nix the baby food completely, unless he refused all table food. So....we've done just that. I'm sure he's not eating as much as he did with the purees, but it's really hard to tell. He's eating at every meal and sleeps fine, so it must be ok! The doc said that his weight was fine (67th percentile), so no need to supplement with baby food. It's a very personal choice I think though. Ethan eats everything we eat, some days he eats a lot, other days not so much. He eats 3 meals a day - whether with us or at daycare.
Preggers, That sounds almost exactly like Allison. She is boycotting bottles and doesn't like sippy cups so if i get 12 oz of formula in her every day I consider it a win.
She does maybe 1 jar of baby food (3 oz) at daycare, along with some oatmeal or rice cereal (to get more formula into her, DCP mixes it with 2 oz of formula).
At home we do some table food (noodles, banana - she LOVES to eat a whole banana!) but what we found works best is to give her string cheese! That girl loves to eat string cheese!
I honestly don't know how much food she is getting in total but I know she isn't hungry so I figure it is enough.
I'm so sorry you're struggling with this.
Aria eats about 18 ounces of formula a day now. Some days more (up to 24oz) but she usually averages 18.
She's eating three meals a day and two snacks. I try to get some dairy (cheese crumbles, yogurt) a couple veggies and a couple fruits down her every day. I offer her meat at every meal, but she's not a big fan unless it's deli meat or a hot dog. (turkey dog, in our house) So, getting protein down this baby is a challenge. It makes me glad she's still getting most of her nutrients from her formula.
As for amounts, snacks are about a handful of whatever I'm giving her. For meals, we bought those divided toddler plates and I fill each section. I try to balance her meals between the food groups. It doesn't always happen though, honestly.
Some days she'll eat a lot, and other days she doesn't. It's never consistent, except that the more solids she eats, the less formula I get in her. The less solids she eats, the more formula she wants.
Hope this helps, and good luck!

Skyler has 16-20 oz of BM per day. I send 15oz to school and she nurses about twice with me sometimes more. She sometimes skips one of her bottles at daycare now that she gets more food.
We just started with 3 meals and a snack full time. She had been doing three meals with 2oz per meal so about 6oz a day. She now does between 3-4oz per meal so about 9-12oz per day and a snack of cheerios or these other snack things we got made by Earth's Best.
His diet sounds pretty similar to what Skyler was doing about 2 weeks ago so I say stick with it. When he's ready for more food he will let you know, and you can always up his food and bottle amounts up .5 oz at a time.
I know we've talked about this a bit, but for us formula is still a battle. It's gotten better once I started following your suggestion, but it isn't great. I think Lucia drinks around 16 oz of formula per day. We offer her 3 6 oz bottles, and then usually a cup of milk with dinner, though we aren't great at that.
As far as food, she really likes food. She eats 3 meals a day (but no snacks because we try and spread food apart so she'll take the bottle). She eats probably 2 - 3 oz of pureed food per meal, and then some finger food. The food part isn't a battle, though she much prefers our food (with spices and things) to bland baby food.
