Hi there. I know you are in NYC so I wanted to see if you can help me out... you have in the past.
DD is dairy, egg and peanut allergic. We've never had an anaphylactic reaction (thank God) but "processed in the same facility" clearly affects her for diary and egg. We've stayed completely clear of all traces of peanuts.
Anyway -- do you know any brands of pasta that are not made on the same equipment or facility as egg or dairy? I really need to start cooking at home with her in mind cause i feel like I'm holding her back -- at this point DS was already on table foods. I find dairy the hardest to get around, for some reason. Even the seasonings i regulary used to use (Maggie Boujon) is processed on equipment that also processes dairy and egg.
Re: Magdusia
This is the pasta we have in our house and we have never had any issues - Eden pasta and De Cecco. Eden is usually found in health food stores and De Cecco is in most convenient stores.

I would still call the manufacturer and make sure it's safe.
IMO dairy and eggs is really easy to avoid b/c i just find vegan recipes. If your LO can have soy, then that's even better.. there are so many soy substitudes. We use milk/soy/egg free products and it gets a bit trickier, but still duable. The only thing that sucks is the price for these allergy friendly products. Couponing has been my BFF lately.
Expensive is right! Sigh...
I've seen the DeCecco before... so that's great. Yes, she can have soy. I will google some vegan recipes.. great idea.
Have you eliminated all the allergins from your home all together? I've eliminated peanuts from my home but my older son still eats eggs sometimes and milk everyday. Wondering if i need to simply change everyone's diet.
thanks.
pretty much.. our house is free of nuts, milk, eggs. We do have some soy products since i don't eat meat, but not much and they are very carefully labeled. Also, soy is not a sever allergen so we don't fee bad having it in the house.
I think it's a lot harder to remove all the allergens from the house when you have an older child who is eating them already. Our older child is the one with the allergies, so the younger one has never known any different.
I think you should eliminate as much as possible, but also find a great way to label things so everyone can be on alert.
It isn't easy -that's for sure!
We all like almond milk (plan to try coconut milk next week)... but just this morning he said that he did not like his oatmeal this morning because it tasted different - I made it with almond milk for the first time (he eats oatmeal every single morning). So I think i will keep regular milk in the house just for him (we use Lactaid - not that it makes a difference).
I am planning on eliminating the allergens in all other ways. so it's just that 1 carton of milk in the house.
I think it will just make my life so much easier this way. Reading the labels at the supermarket vs. every single time i go to make a meal. I went to use a jar of pasta sauce 2 nights agao and the label read "mushroom". But looking at the ingridient list it had all kinds of dairy and cheese in it. Easy miss if i don't read labels in the house each time i go to cook, which is a pain.
Oh.. and he misses peanut butter --LOL. He is not fond of the almond butter (neither am I). But I'm not budging on that one.
It's hard enough trying to feed these kids.. but now with the allergy issue -- it's just ridiculous.
try sunbutter.. i personally think it tastes much more like PB than almond butter. My DH and DS loves it. I wasn't too crazy at first and now i like it.
It will get easier and then harder and then easier.. it's a constant rollercoaster
