xp: any runners?

I'm a very avid runner, but because I was so exhausted/in extreme pain from my very physical job, I haven't been able to run since about 12 weeks (I'm now 23), though I've still been ellipticalling/doing yoga. I started a new job last week and was hoping I could start running again, but when I tried, it's too...uncomfortable. Not painful, per se, but I have an intense pressure in my pelvis. I googled it and found that maternity support belts are supposed to help this problem...I was just wondering if anyone actually has any experience with this? Does the support belt help at all? If I'm too uncomfortable to run, I'm too uncomfortable to run, and I'll listen to my body, but if a support belt really will help, then I'll at least give that a shot! TIA!

  • Yes, I wear the "mother-to-be", and running shoes with forefoot lugs to transfer the weight more quickly to the front of the foot. I can NOT run in my other sneakers. But I'm 36 weeks and still running (albeit slowly) with this set-up.

  • I am still running at almost 35 weeks and I don't use belly support. I found that it isn't too uncomfortable if I take my pace way down and take frequent breaks. I am also running only 2 miles at a time and extend the workout to 1 hour walking hills etc.... The elliptical is great though and I think that is what is really going to keep me in running form. I would otherwise try to find some fun classes that you enjoy and that are fun. If you are having fun, it is less likely that you will notice how uncomfortable you are.

Running is fun for me...classes are not, so that wouldn't help. :)

I did, however, break down and buy a gabrialla support belt...and it makes all the difference in the world!!! Although I did more of a run/walk/run/walk, I could tell the second out the door that I wouldn't be in pain/uncomfortable like I am not using the belt, and I was able to run a bit faster than I had even been attempting to go without the belt since I'd been so uncomfortable.

Thanks for the input, ladies...I'm glad I got a support belt. Big Smile

  • I'm only at 22 weeks, but have just started to feel a bit of pain in my right side of pelvis/SI joint. I guess this is pretty normal for pregnancy so I'm running every other day now instead of 6 days a week. I've wore the belly band a few times and I'm a fan :)

I'm just trying to listen to my body so I CAN keep running throughout the pregnancy! I give belly belts a thumbs up :)
