When I went to my OB about 4 months ago, she suggested I think About Chlomid. I wasn't ready for medication yet, and have been doing acupuncture and charting in the mean time. As of January it will have been about 10 months since my m/c, and we've decided that's when we'll look into other options to help us conceive. Will my OB be able to prescribe Chlomid, or will she have to refer me to someone else?
Re: Can my OB give me Chlomid?
This. Also some OBs treat Clomid like candy. Did she say if she thinks you are not ovulating or give you a reason why she thinks Clomid will work for you.
The day the Bump died - Jasper is wise
She originally offered it to me in a very "like candy" kind of way. Like as soon as I came in to see her about my continued irregular periods, she was like "do you want cholmid?"
She's typically very through and responsive, though, so I will see how she acts when I say I'm ready for it. My periods are all over the place, and even when i chart and seem to ovulate, nothing has happened. I will be asking a lot more questions before I start taking any drugs.
Do you think it's better to see a specialist? I don't know at what point to say I'm having fertility issues. I've had a hysteropingogram, and lots of blood work, and everything is clear. DH is getting his stuff tested in early January, and if his results come back clear then we're ready to go to the next step.
Thanks for the link! I need to start reading up more. I just kept hoping I wouldn't end up at this point-- i'm sure you all can relate to that!
I agree about asking your OB for you to be monitored while you are on it. My OB Rx'd me Clomid after 6m of TTCAL and it was successful.
I O'd on my own, but always on different CDs ranging from CD21-50. I had 10-11 day LPs which isn't bad necessarily, but not great. My OPKs would be + 2-3 days and our guess about what was going on with my body was that my ovaries weren't releasing the egg when it was mature and by the time it was released, it was no longer good quality, hence not able to fertilize. OB said Clomid would give me a stronger O and help release the egg when it was ready. We both believe he was right--first cycle on it, I O'd on CD18 with one + OPK and then followed by a BFP.
Best of luck!
Thanks Maddielynn! It was funny, a couple weeks ago I was out to dinner with my good friend and running buddy, who has heard more of my frustrations than almost anyone. I was telling her that I was thinking about going to therapy, and she suggested I also check into any "online message boards" that could offer a community of support. Ha! I think that was God telling me to get my butt back here. This friend is single and not at all TTC, so for her to suggest that was pretty crazy.
Thanks for being so thoughtful and welcoming!
OK, first, it's Clomid. No H. And yes, your OB can prescribe it, but it's incredibly ill-advised and frankly your OB offering it prior to YH having a sperm analysis done sets off some warning bells for me. Also, after a year of TTC, Clomid alone really doesn't increase your odds of conception all that much, maybe 1-2% over unmedicated cycles.
At this point, you should be booking an appointment with an RE. OB's are not conception experts. Check out ASRM/SART to find one in your area and to see their success rates.
