I'm at a loss for words right now...

I am not a regular poster on here, but I have a friend who could use your thoughts and prayers right now.  She had a long road getting pregnant, had them very prematurely around 28-29 weeks, a boy and a girl.  They came home around the first of October.  The little girl came home on an apnea monitor and the EMS was called several times because she stopped breathing.  I just found out from another friend that while the little boy was eating this morning, he choked, aspirated and passed away.  I can't even begin to imagine the devasation and heartache they are going through right now.  This is the second time within a month that I have known someone with infant twins where one passed away.  It makes me want to hug my babies even tighter - knowing just how precious life is and how it can all be taken away in an instant.  So, if you could please include her and her family in your thoughts and prayers today...

  • My heart goes out to them. I just lost my son at 3 months in January.. I hope she can find some peace, sending them T&P's for a long road of healing.
  • I'm so sorry to hear that about your friend. It sounds like she could really use some T&P's - I'll keep her and her family in my prayers this week. What an absolutely terrible experience.
  • I'm sorry for your loss and for your friend. T&P for you and them.

  • The title of your post is so accurate; his passing is simply too tragic for words. I can't imagin a worse pain.

And this story terrifies me thinking about my boys and eating solids. Do you know what kind of food he was eating at the time?

Things like this are so sad, but good for the rest of us to remember real dangers and to be cautious always. They are in my thoughts and prayers, as is their little boy.

  • I haven't actually spoken with her yet, but from what I can gather, they were still very young - so I am assuming they were on formula or breast milk still.  They were born at the end of August and were not due until around November - they were in the NICU until the first of October, so again, I am assuming no solids yet.

I know - I am always terrified of them choking - and mine are 20 months.  A couple of weeks ago, we were eating a Mexican restaurant and I was breaking up little pieces of chips (they've both eaten them many times before in small pieces) - well, this time DS choked until he threw it up everywhere.  Then right after that DD choked as well, she got hers up without throwing up, but needless to say, NO MORE CHIPS for either of them for a while.

Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers for them.  I still have a hard time believing its real...

  • So scary and so sad. I hadn't even realized that a baby could choke on liquids. That poor family.

That's scary about the chips! I would have thought that would be fine too!

  • I'm saying this not knowing exactly what happened.  I haven't talked to her yet at this point, so I am making assumptions.  I was told he choked and aspirated, so I am assuming that he maybe choked, threw up and then aspirated on it?  Someone who knows how this could have happened may step in and explain if this scenario is even possible, but I am just going off the bits and pieces I've heard.
