TTC After a Loss

How soon after m/c to ttc

I had a follow up today since my m/c started on Wednesday. The information i was given was mixed and not with my regular doctor. I called and set up an appointment with the doctor who has been treating DH and I for our infertility issues. That appointment isn't for another two weeks. I will be doing a blood test tomorrow because they do want to track my levels down to zero. I asked when we can start ttc and I was given a range of answers from now, to three months and six months. I was not given any physical reasons as why to wait. All guidance given seemed to b based on emotional state. This is the main reason I scheduled the fertility clinic appointment .

How long were you told to wait?

  • You really need to listen to your doctor on this one. You will get different answers here. I would wait to talk to your regular doctor in two weeks. And you really shouldn't be trying before then anyways.

But to answer your question, I was told 3 months both times. The second time though we ended up TTA for 18 months but for personal reasons.

  • I was told to wait one months after my first m/c which I had to have induced by cytotec and was told I could try again right away this time, both by the same Dr.

  • I am so sorry you had to go through this, I had a mc in september and wasn't told to wait a specific amount of time. I was 7.5 weeks along and I didn't really start trying again until nov. I know how you feel though because all you want, is to be pregnant again to fill the emptiness inside. I feel like you go through different stages of grief and I am actually thankful at times that I didn't get pregnant right away, because I would be in a rough emotional shape for the first few months of pregnancy. I wish you the best and I hope you find peace. Do what you feel is right, you know yourself best.

the reason why I didn't know when to start trying again: My doctor never met me at all and only confirmed hcg decrease.... a few weeks later, called to remind me for my first ultrasound..never talked to her again

  • I agree with the other ladies that you need to wait and ask your doctor. You shouldn't even be having sex at all for at least 2 weeks because of infection risk, but after that, the time varies depending on your doctor. Mine only advised us to wait 1 cycle, but everyone is different.

  • Sorry for your loss.

This is something that should be consulted with your Dr. However, I was told to wait two full cycles.

  • My doctor advised me to wait two to three cycles to make sure my endometrial lining was thick enough to maintain a pregnancy.

This exactly. But I had to wait two full cycles. It all depends on your individual situation.

  • I agree to consult your dr.  But mine said to wait one cycle and then we can try again. Whether or not I will be emotionally ready, Idk. But back in 2006 when I had 2 m/c in a row, I was told to wait 6 months, so I'm sure it depends on your medical background/situation. Good luck to you.

I am so confused. The OB doctor in the ER said there was no reason to abstain bc there was no longer a baby to harm. Those were her words exactly. I cant wait to actually talk to my doctor to get better insight on this whole situation.

Even if we get the clear to try earlier DH has a business trip that takes him away Jan and Feb and I have one that takes me away in March.
