August 2012 Moms

i need help.

For the past couple of nights ds wakes up every 10 to 20 minutes. Regardless if I'm holding him or not. It's like he can't figure out how to fall into deep sleep. He did this last night from 7 to about 12 ish. Then he woke up every 45 minutes until 2 am. Then he slept solidly until 7.

He's currently screaming his head off from overtiredness. He falls asleep easily, just doesn't stay asleep.

He does not have this problem for naps. He takes 1 to 2 hour naps.

Something has to give. I'm really really tired. His new bedtime could not possibly be 2 am!

  • How old? There is a 4 month wakeful stage that is killer. We went through 5 nights of what you described...it improved last night, not sure if it's a fluke or not. There is also a pretty nasty 19 week wonder week that some babies are affected by from 14.5 weeks through 19.5. Good luck...

  • We dealt with this tonight. I'm currently on couch while she's in the swing. I normally don't use the swing at night, but neither DH nor I have gotten decent sleep. Do you have a swing you could try?

He's 14 weeks tomorrow. So I don't think its the dreaded 4 month wakeful. Although I'm not looking forward to that.

I don't have a swing, but I've tried everything I can think of. I even tried nursing him down, but he still wakes up after 10 or 20 minutes. I've tried unswaddling, rocking continuously, swaying, etc. The white noise is on, the room is dark, the temp is comfortable. He just doesn't stay asleep.

Hmmm...what could be going on? Poor little guy and poor mommy! I hope it's just a short stage...

  • My little lady has been doing this for the past 3 nights.  Last night I realized she was sleeping while screaming.  I picked her up and her eyes were shut.  She screamed in my arms for almost a minute until I said her name.  She was very startled to find herself in mama's arms.  So tonight 20 min after I put her to bed she starts screaming.  I just stood above her crib with my hand on her back until she stopped screaming. (3 1/2 min yes I timed it )  She never woke up again.  I am wondering if she kept waking up previous nights because I kept picking her up thinking she was screaming for me? I don't know... these babies do some crazy stuff.

Unfortunately, he's actually waking up. His eyes are open, but doesnt some mad when he wakes up. He gets mad from overtiredness because 10 minutes isnt enough rest.
