NBR: Pots and pans suggestions, please!

For Christmas, I wanted a nice set of pots and pans.  I love my mom dearly but... She sent me an OK set - but not what I wanted.  Therefore, I'll be exchanging them and paying the difference.  My dream set is La Crueuset cast iron cookware.  However, I'm not sure I want to spend $600 on the set I want.  I have ~$250 to put towards them based on gift cards and my return so really would only be out of pocket $350.  I can do a lot with $350, though - that's a big splurge for me!

So, do you ladies have any suggestions for pots and pans UNDER the $600 mark?  I want them to be non-stick to a degree, have even heating, and be able to go from stovetop to oven.

  • I don't have any recommendations but I've been wondering the same thing so I shall eagerly sit here and stalk your post! Cool

  • I love my Calphalon.  Le Cruset is awesome, but IMO you only really need their Dutch oven, or French oven depending if you like round or ovals.  It is just too heavy for everyday use, but for braising nothing else will do!

We use calphalon too. I have a great set we got last year. I've been shopping for a set for MIL and saw that one at Macy's, but the stock pot is tiny! I got it for her for on black friday and then spent 60 for the 10qt matching stock pot.

I already have a big one :) We're still using the set of cheapo pots and pans we got when we moved in together 10 years ago!

  • I have a set of Paula Deane pots and pans and I love them. They were from walmart so they were cheaper, I think around $90. I can't remember. They might not have been that much even.

  • I have the calphalon stainless. I'm not a fan of the anodized except for skillets.

As for Le Creuset, I have just one Dutch oven and it's all I need. I also have a set of cast iron skillets I love.

Then and now. How did my boy get so big?

  • How willing are you to replace them every few years? For $100 you can get a Paula Dean set. Just be aware it won't last you long. We've had ours for two years and it's crap now.
  • I have the simply calphalon set that is in the link above and I love it.  I dont know if it goes from stove top to oven.  I agree that the stock pot is small.  It is tall and narrow I would prefer a wider stock pot (italian cooking here and it is a pain to boil the lasagna in the pot!)  Other then that I have never had an issue with the set- it cooks food very well!

  • I also have calphalon, and love them. They aren't too expensive, but still good quality.

I'm not. I want a set that will last, which is why I was looking at Le Creuset. My grandma has had gets for 30 years and in 6 countries.

I really like the Calphalon Unison set. Of course, it's 600 for what I want. I may go with the contemporary set for a little less and buy a Le Creuset Dutch oven like some ladies have suggested. I like to hardcore cook rather than just put together simple meals. I need pans that can do what I want!

  • I just bought new pans on Cyber Monday. I had high end Calphalon non-stick pots but went with stainless steel this time.

I wanted pans I can throw in the dishwasher now that I have kids. I also don't want to worry about my DH or my kid scratching them and exposing us to all the nasty toxins from a pan that is scratched.

I hand wash all of my cook and bakeware. My college roommate had stainless cookware and I burnt everything and everything stuck to it. I try to do too many things at once in the kitchen so nonstick is my friend.
