St. Mary's Hospital and Natural Birth

I am a patient at Women's Health Associates of Bucks County and am scheduled to deliver at St. Mary's Hospital in Langhorne. I think all of the doctors in the practice are very nice and so far my biggest concern is that I travel from CC Phila. I went on a tour of the maternity wing last week and while the "tour guide" was very nice, she was not a nurse and gave me some very canned answers to specific questions I had about natural birth (no food or drink while in labor, continuous fetal monitoring, baby being separated after delivery to go to the nursery). I am taking Bradley Method birth classes and would like a natural childbirth, although I like the idea of being in a hospital setting should the need arise for medical intervention. Has anyone delivered at St. Mary's? Can you share your experiences good and bad with your labor and delivery? Much thanks!!

Re: St. Mary's Hospital and Natural Birth

  • I delivered at St Marys in July 2011 and was also with Womens Health Assoc. I did not have nor want : a natural birth I had an epidural so I'm not sure if my experience will be the same as yours but I didn't have any food or drink during labor but I didn't want/ask for anything but they did give me ice chips. I had a pretty quick labor, though, 5 hrs total. The nurse was with me monitoring the baby throughout my whole labor. After delivery the baby is not taken away immediately. We were able to have visitors in my delivery room after delivery to see the baby. Eventually the baby is taken to the nursery for evaluation but I think that's a normal occurrence at most hospitals. I had a great experience at St Marys. The nurses are very attentive and sweet. I hope I was able to answer your questions. Let me know if there is anything else you'd like to know. Good luck!
