Is there a main link to birth plans that someone could share with me?  If not would anyone please share yours.  Especially interested in hypnomama's plans!  Thanks

  • I don't think people REALLY look at birth plans during birth. They kind of just ask you. "Do you want an epidural?" "no" "Do you want an iv?" "no, i'd like to try to hydrate myself first, thanks"

Not many nurses check your birth plan, especially with shift changes. I think most get annoyed if you hand them a 10 page plan, too. Keep it simple if you have one. :)

Actually the nurses do look at your birth plan or at least mine did.  I had a short 1 page plan with key things highlighted.  She read it over in less than 3 minutes.  In my plan I said I did not want an IV but would allow a Hep lock.  The nurse asked in she could put the Help lock in like stated in my plan.  I declined because I was in transition and did not want to deal with a needle.  I would be highly peeved if I had a nurse that would not take the time to read a 1 page plan of what I wanted for my birth.

It's a really useful tool to have a discussion with your doctor beforhand, though. If your doctor agrees to something outside the norm, then you have a signed document to show the nurses.

My birth plan was less than a page. It was a great tool to have. My birth DID follow my preferences fairly closely. It wasn't terribly used in the hospital, but I arrived 10 cm and ready to push so there wasn't a lot of negotiations required there.
